NFL Developmental League

Cascadia Subduction Zone
Didn't see anywhere else to put this and it is probably worth discussing. College football (and basketball) pretty much jumped the shark into quasi semi-pro ball a good while ago. Should colleges even be in this kind of big business? As it is the sport I love most I say yes; but rationally it is increasingly hard to justify.

And of course it leads to the debate if colleges should be involved in any athletics beyond intramural. I don't know. Many colleges/universities could be defined as really, really expensive vocational schools these days and are not exactly the embodiment of universitas magistrorum et scholarium. Do many even deserve the non-profit status? I suppose one way is to just go full on for profit.

The whole idea of amateur sports is a bit of an anachronistic relic at any rate.

Maybe there is a compromise somewhere....like university sponsored club sports that can pay a wage and help with tuition if a party is so inclined. I don't know if this new league will have any success but I think it is a topic that is not going away.
