GM Needed
I think it's hard to argue against Tony Sparano or Mike Smith.

Although Bill Parcells has had a lot to do with rebuilding the Dolphins, to go from 1-15 to a winning season (Miami got win #9 today) is pretty impressive.

Mike Tomlin. Pittsburgh has had the hardest schedule BY FAR, yet they have won 11 games and have clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs.

I agree totally. They also play a very physical style of football. This is very Noll and Cowher like football.

Ditka. The man didn't lose a game all season

In all seriousness, I took Fisher considering the success of the Titans this year, but how much of that stems from the play of Collins?

Going back, I probably would have voted Tomlin, a tough win in Dallas against the Cowboys and coached a team thats played hard all season with injuries. Impressive.

I credit that to Dick LeBeau. As far as the offense, it's as pass-happy as has been since Roethlisberger took over.

More than Collins, I say credit the running game and the defensive line.

As for Tomlin, I disagree. Pittsburgh has been a successful franchise for years. They were division winners last year.

Tomlin has done a nice job, but LeBeau should get just as much credit.

All due respect to the others, but how can it not be Smith? The Falcons were supposed to be, well, the Lions this year, and instead they are on the cusp of the playoffs and will have a winning record. The other guys have done a great job, but that right there is a miracle.

Only reason I didn't say smith was how Godaweful the fins were last year. This year they are right there lookin at the playoffs with a little help.

i think it is too early to hand out "Coach of the Year" award to the first year coaches. i know that atl, miami, Bal are all doing quite well considering their previous year record (ESPECIALLY miami). However, i don't understand why, considering the grand scheme of things, Jeff Fisher isn't even heavily considered in this poll? The titans has only lost 2 games, with the best record now in NFL, they are also winning with a mediocre at best qb in kerry collins. Fisher went out and found himself a gem in the rough in Johnson. as much as i hate lendale "fatty" white, he is a hell of a player. remember everyone think he is a bust coming out of USC? Fisher did a hell of a job turning him into one of the better RBs in the league. His defense is ranked up there with the like of Pitt, Bal, TB...etc.

I believe he is the best coach in the NFL this year, bar none. harbaugh, smith, and sparano will get their chance to solidify their performance as early as next year.

Fisher has a good defense and a good running game. As long as Fisher has been coaching, he should have a year like this.

I'm not taking anything away from Fisher, and he finishes third in my book.

However, consider that Mike Smith has taken over a train wreck. Between the Michael Vick fiasco, their coach leaving them during the season last year, guys like DeAngelo Hall and Warrick Dunn leaving, and coaches in the toughest division in football this year.

I agree. Last year was a disaster for ATL. Smith comes in, without a Bill Parcells in the front office, AND playing a rookie QB, and they're 9-5?

Hands down in my book.

I voted Sparano...the Phins won 1 game last year. 1 friggin' game.

I know a lot of people automaticallt give the credit to Parcells, but Parcells isn;t the coach. Otherwise I'd give Parcells coach of the year.

1 win to the playoff is not an easy feat.

Props to Mike Smith as well.

I completely agree. I think that Fisher hands down should be getting coach of the year.

He has completely turned the Titans around from being a mediocre AFC team, into a top Super Bowl favorite.

With respect to what you're saying about first year coaches: Isn't it the Coach of the YEAR award? If that's the name, shouldn't it be based on their performance this year alone? I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't argue in favor of one of the others, but I don't agree that one of the rookie coaches should only be considered after repeating the performance next year.

I'll also add: One thing both the Dolphins and Falcons have this year besides new coaches - quality RBs. Ronnie Brown is back from injury and the Falcons were able to sign Michael Turner. Both of those guys can make a coach look pretty good.
