I havn't been following this. What are the odds they don't come to a conclussion tonight. Also can anyone copy paste the players that this will potentially affect.

Also... could this be viewed as a good thing for teams that are UNDER the cap because it screws with other teams, or should it be viewed as a bad thing for everyone.

the browns did, before resigning Roye. They are still close to the top. Minnesota is a total trainwreck.

The best case scenario is to have the whole thing get resolved in about 3 weeks, giving cleveland enough time to sign a few big names relatively cheaply.

In the short run teams with money left under the new or (lower) old cap will benefit. But that is truly a one season wonder.

In the longer run the lack of a cap is only good for the big market teams - think NFL gone the way of Baseball. Teams with huge merchandising or other non-TV income will be by far the biggest beneficiaries.

For example: Dallas wins, Redskins wins, Raiders win, Steelers potentially get a leg up on all others in their division, Niners may or may not win. It would a be a world in which the few big teams would exercise greater leverage to buy and retain the top players. Like dynasties? We'llbe seeing them once again, and sooner than you think (or maybe want).

The one certain loser in all of this is you and me: The fan of what has been a golden era in professional football, one during which any team could with good management and coaching have a legitimate shot at the play-offs in any given year.

This is great for all of the teams under the cap i.e. Cleveland. A bunch of teams are going to be dumping good players, but no one is going to have the money to offer these guys big contracts. That will allow the Browns to sign a few really good players to contracts for less than they are probably worth, just because nobody else will be able to beat them out. Hopefully the Browns will use this to lock up a few good vets to manageable multi-year deals. Now that the owners have shut down talks for good don't look to hear anything about this for a little under a year. The owners are going to have to share some revenue in order to get up to a number the players will accept. They will just have to realize that they will make more money sharing than they will if they lose the cap. I'm sure some of the owners (Snyder, Jones) wouldn't mind losing the cap and being able to Yankee all the other teams even though it would never be that drastic. The rich teams make $300 mil a season and the poor teams make $150 mil a season so it wouldn't be like MLB.

IMO the owners won't play w/o a cap. They will have a lockout. There are only a few owners that want the cap gone.

This is ridiculous if you ask me.

They could ruin the most popular sport in america.

You are only as good as your weakest link and if there is no salary cap some teams like a Green Bay, KC, and so won't be able to compete with the billionaire owners like the guy in Seattle, Snyder, Jones and so on.

This is the exact reason that baseball has gone down in fan base like it has, and the nfl has taken over.

Don't worry, it won't happen. The Rooney's and Craft's of the league will win out in the end. There are 30 teams in the league and most of the owners would rather make money than spend everything on Super Bowls.
