Next Florida Head Football Coach

Wow. I don't know that this is a good move or not however, Florida went after a guy with no head coaching experience. That seems incredibly risky. Known to be a great recruiter, and he'll shore up the defense. But to go after a coordinator seems below what UF ought to have done.

Big step up for Muschamp, of course, he was next in line for the UT position, but how could anyone turn down the Gator job with the in-state talent, academics, budget, stadium and history they have.

Working for the University, this makes me very intrigued to watch what happens.

I'm betting Florida was turned down by Stoops and Mullen, and got a 'not interested' by perhaps a couple of others.

Muschamp isn't a sure thing, but I doubt there are a lot of 'proven' head coaches out there willing to step into a situation where A) they are following a hugely successful predecessor who B) still has an office down the hall.

Probably not a bad hire, but it'll take a couple of years to know.

Couldn't tell you on the Peterson and Mullen situation (though I do have a hard time imagining many people in coaching saying no to Florida). I definitely think he's going to have a hard time replicating Meyer's success, but its still Florida. It practically wins itself! Unless he Zook's it up of course.

If I were an established head coach in a stable situation (i.e., Bob Stoops et. al), no way I'd take the Florida job.

That's a job for a very hungry up-and-comer who wants to prove himself.

Reporter said his source says that Muschamp was the only guy pursued by Foley, but I have no faith in that at all. * Just posted it in response to your comment Smoov

Edit: * crappola - I take that back. They updated the linked article with a statement by Boom confirming his hire, and a Foley statement saying he only targeted Muschamp.

The only obvious negative is that our new Head Gator was a four year, butt sniffing, leg humping mangy poodle from 1991-94. I take great pride in knowing that he never got to play in a WLOCP victory while wearing the hideous aluminum foil britches. :banger:

Poodle coaching the Lizards? Our [censored] just got WAYYYYYY more interesting now.

You have to be [censored]ting us. Really? Aside from in-state talent (maybe), Texas makes more money than any school in the country (including us), their academics are top-notch, their stadium is excellent (although it doesn't have a "sinister" name like "The Swamp"), their overall facilities are world-class, and UT's total football history kills Florida's. Texas matches or stomps Florida in each category you mentioned.

Oh yeah, Austin has it all over Gainesville, too...
