Does anybody see any Crimson and White in that picture? Back in the '50s and '60s the BB, and FB team, for that matter wore beautiful Crimson and White unis. Where these deep Maroon/ almost Black unis have come from I have no clue...no doubt because I have been away from the area for decades. But I would love to hear why my beloved alma mater strayed from its colorful roots.

Go Bucks! Go Wildcats!
What ? winning the state Championship isn't enough?

Who knows? I saw quite a few older letterman jackets...all crimson. I believe Maroon took over sometime in the mid eighties. I remember a friend of the family playing for Newark around '87. His uni was not as maroon, but it wasn't quite crimson. By the time I got to NHS, the color was about the same as the photo.

'Cats cruise past Gales again

Newark heightens celebratory night with rivalry rout

  • NEWARK -- With Newark back in the Ohio Capital Conference-Ohio Division race, the Wildcats knew what they had to do -- win their remaining three league games, and they at least tie for the title.
Lancaster, on the other hand, was coming off its first road win in more than two years after beating Pickerington North on Friday.
The visiting Golden Gales were hoping to carry that momentum into Saturday's game, but Newark would have none of it.
The Wildcats raced out to a 21-6 first-quarter lead and led 42-13 at halftime, propelling them to a 71-42 victory on a night when the Jimmy Allen Gymnasium court was renamed Gary Walters' Court after Newark's long-time coach.

Newark Advocate...

Can't believe I haven't been to one game so far this year. Defending state champs. :shake:

GO CATS!

C'mon Taos. No cursing in the high school threads. You got something to say to me, there are plenty of places better suited than this.

Gotta Agree with ya that's pretty lame you haven't been able to make it to any games yet. They will have plenty more since they are going to go adead and win back to back state titles. Last i checked they weren't even ranked in the state, talk about no respect. They had a 4 and a 5 loss team on there but the defending state champs not ranked with only 3 losses? Fuel on the fire.

As a recent grad from Newark, I was thrilled to find this thread!

I went to a game a week ago and was impressed with the guard play and by James Kurzawa, who will have to step up for the remainder of the season. For those of you who haven't heard, Dane Kopp "quit" the team just before senior night and is officially done.
Depending on how close to the program you are, you might have heard about previous problems with Dane. I don't know if I should get into much more than he just flat out wasn't going to school and wasn't willing to face the consequences. On a side note, I talked to Greg Avery the other day. He is having a great time down in Western Carolina and has even started a good deal of games.

Cats are on the road to Lancaster this weekend for their final regular season game before the tourney starts. It's looking like they will meet up with Z-ville once again in the district, just not in the final. Anyone who went to last years district game saw a good one. Cops hated us after storming the court like that HAHA.

Cats beat Lancaster and finished the season with only three losses. I think they have marysville in the first round

My take: don't look for the cats to make a run this year. Winning the district would really surprise me. Without Dane, they really lack a big man and it hurts them a lot defensively. Also, with a ring already, a lot of the guys don't look as focused. I hope I'm dead wrong.

Something for all cat fans to celebrate about, Zanesville lost tonight to MARION FRANKLIN! Cats will face off with Marion Franklin this Friday.

BAHAHAHHAHA at Zanesville! Their coaches were in Lancaster on Friday scouting us and everything! How embarrassing, nothing against Marion Franklin.

Well, the cats beat Franklin Heights by about 10 by going 31-34 at the line. Solid performances by the Wildcat seniors, especially Cody Dennison for owning FH's backcourt and break the press all day.
Cats play UA this Saturday. UA was ranked 2nd in the state earlier this year for some reason, but they weren't worthy of that ranking IMHO. Cats will have excellent guard play and out run the Bears.
I'll keep you updated on what the final score is.
