Can someone explain the vcash?

How do I edit my profile from "Newbie" to something else? Do I have to reach a certain number of posts, etc. to earn the right.

Check the BP Book link at the top left in the red navbar. During the season we'll post Vegas odds for games each weekend, and people can put their very imaginary money where their very real mouths are.

Oh8ch is the lead bookmaker in there, and we've run a few 'test' bets already.

Never used the vcash myself, but you can make wagers... Say you and I want to bet against eachother on the outcome of the Minnesota v. Wisconsin game, get the bookie, make our bet... boom...

Go to USer CP and you can get a lot of ID type stuff done.

Be careful though, some people are Nutty enough to steal your Vcash:biggrin:

EDIT: Dang Nutty fixed the problem and gave me my money back. Guess I have to quit kicking that horse

Titles under members' names are generated by the system depending on the amount of posts you've made. Last month, Clarity allowed folks to request custom titles as a "birthday present" to everyone in celebration of the site's one-year anniversary. Although the one day he set aside for that has long gone, a couple of the administrators have continued to hook up members...just go to the Birthday present thread and ask for one.

BuckeyeFromHeck, there is a feature on the board that lets you bet imaginage cash. Everyone starts with 500. The "BP Book" is located (as a link) in the red navigation bar at the top of almost every page at BuckeyePlanet. Click the link and it will take you to the BP Book. Once there you will see different open items that you can bet on (at the moment there may not be any events to bet on). Basically there are events (Tour d'France, Wimblendon, Football games, etc.) with odds and you can pick which you'd like to wager some imaginary cash on. The events are set up to "open" (you can wager vcash) and "close" (no more bets are accepted) at specific intervals/times. After that, the event will "settle" (you win vcash or lose vcash) and you are left with an adjusted total. Once you bet, you will be without that amout of vcash until the bet "settles". The other option for an event/bet is "abandon". This could happen if no one bets or the odds are wrong or the timing is set up incorrectly (or any number of reasons). It just means that the even has been cancelled. The system is in a sort of trial phase with the kinks being worked out. If you run out of vcash the system will automatically give you and extra 25 (I believe) if a new event/bet is opened up. This will all be wiped clean and everyone will be given a starting amount of 500 vcash at the beginning of football season. From there it's "game on".

If you want to get an idea, go to the BP Book and change the pull down menu so that it displays "settled" events. Then click "go". You will see the list of events/bets that we've already completed, who won, lost, etc. It'll give you an idea of what's happening.

HH, I think that once the football season starts all you get is 500. Once you lose it, it's gone. No one has really defined how this will all play out, but I assume it will be similar to what we are doing now. I'm guessing (Clarity or Oh8ch will have to say for sure) that if you go "bust" you will be given an extra 25 when a new event is opened just so you can play along if you like. Although, I'm not sure that will be the case.

EDIT: Ooops, I guess I missed the obvious answer: Win your bets to earn more vcash.

Clarity might have some additional ways for you to "earn" vcash, but I'd rather not discuss that ... distasteful option! :lol:

Hey that's just the last scuttlebutt I'd heard about the book. There's plenty of time to lobby Clarity for changes to how this will all be handled. I think the main problem was with folks not knowing how the system worked and losing all their money in a single bet. Abandoned bets, stuff like that. I'm sure there are a few folks who will lobby to have all vcash returned to the 500 at the beginning of football season :lol: so you'd better get it figured out (in writing :) ) with Clarity and/or Oh8ch.

Here's my pitch ... don't give the destitue (broke) people $25 vcash when they hit bottom. That seems unfair to everyone else. How about giving everybody $5 vcash for every new event that is opened (not including private bets). That seems more fair to everyone. The broke folks can build their vcash back up (slowly) by sitting out several events and everyone plays by the same rules. Just a thought.
