thanks matz, I can't wait for this new cd.

I'm glad Trent didn't try to make this cd hard and subsequently shitty (ala St. Anger by Metallica)

This cd can't come out any sooner!

Don't worry about being disappointed BTID. This album has nothing in common with St. Anger. I'll try to summarize each song below (please bear with me here) sorry for the length of this post:

All the Love in the World - 10 / 10 - starts very slow with a simple drum loop, a piano and Trent's voice. Trent singing is very soft and delicate. Repeatedly TR sings "Why do you get all the love in the world?" As the song progresses more background noises appear. Then towards the end of the song a piano solo breaks with Dave Grohl using the foot pedals of his drum. Trent is still singing "Why do you get all the love in the world?" The end of the song Trent continues this question getting more aggressive. Great, great opening song.

You Know What You Are? - 8 / 10 - the hardest song on the cd. The chorus is "Don't you fucking know what you are!!!!" Heavy guitars and Dave Grohl's pounding drums.

The Collector - 7 / 10 - nothing too spectacular here. It's a pretty good song though.

The Hand that Feeds - 8 / 10 - the most commercial song Trent has released to date. There has been mixed reviews, but personally I think it is really good. Reznor could fart into a microphone and I would think that it was groundbreaking though.

Love is Not Enough - 9.5 / 10 - I love this song. Classic NIN. Back to the industrial noises from "The Downward Spiral", however not as dark as that material.

Everyday is Exactly the Same - 8 / 10 - I can see TR releasing this song as a single. Not as commercial as "The Hand That Feeds" though.

With Teeth - 7.5 / 10 - Heavy drum & bass at the beginning. It is a slower song. In slower, I mean "Reptile" slower not "Hurt" (if that makes any sense)...The chorus is kind of strange-TR sings like "a witha teeeeetha". Towards the end of the song it completely slows down with TR sing/speaking very softly on top of a piano, then the song ERUPTS!!! A very good ending.

Only - 10 / 10 - This is my favorite song so far. The beginning sounds like an 80s new wave song with synthesizers and all. TR starts singing (ala "Down in It"). He even mentions that "tiny little dot in his eye". The chorus jams. "There is no you, there is only me. There is no you, there is only me. THERE IS NO FUCKING YOU, THERE IS ONLY ME! THERE IS NO FUCKING YOU, THERE IS ONLY ME!" One of my favorite NIN songs of all time. I cannot wait for you all to hear this song.

Getting Smaller - 8 / 10 - Another hard song ala "Gave Up". Good stuff!!

Sunspots - 8.5 / 10 - Not much to say, but at first I didn't care for this song. I have to admit, the more I listen to it, the more I am really getting into it. It starts off slow, but it progressively gets harder.

The Line Begins to Blur - 9 / 10 - Awesome song. Very distorted with Trent singing / almost screaming into the mic. It is a pretty raw song (in a good way).

Beside You in Time - 9 / 10 - The first of two slow songs to close the album. The beat is hard to explain. It's just an electronic constant noise with a guitar strumming over top of it. Trent is singing softly over it. All of the sudden the guitar and singing stops with the constant beat still present. Then the guitar picks up and TR starts singing again. I'm sure if you were "messed up", it would sound pretty strange. Very weird, but good song.

Right Where It Belongs - 9.5 / 10 - Very cool closing track. Alot of people will compare it to "Hurt". It's basically TR singing over a simple piano and electronic beat. The beat starts to pick up as the song progresses. Finally, the song fades into full stereo with a crowd noise present. It sounds live at the end. I cannot wait to hear this song in 5.1!!!

Well there you have it. I hope that I didn't sound like too much of a tool. I realize that I am not good at writing a review, but I wanted you all to get excited about NIN's new album. I cannot wait to get the actual cd with the 5.1 audio. If anyone hasn't picked up "The Downward Spiral" special edition, do yourself a favor and listen to it in 5.1.

I got it from that site last night and listened to it for a while last night and on the way to work...I think it is a decent album. Nothing absolutely groundbreaking, but there is some very decent work, and a lot of songs that are accessible to people who haven't listened to NIN in the past (matz2 is right on about songs like Everyday is Exactly the Same).

If you are looking for a good torrent from that same website, download the album Shake Off the Dust...ARISE by Matisyahu. It is kind of a rap/reggae fusion from a guy who is an MC, beatboxer, and Hasidic Jew from Brooklyn. It is worth checking out...

I like the new NIN album more every time I listen to it...

The new Mars Volta CD is great too...love that TorrentSpy website...

Me too. I am really loving the song "Sunspots". By the way, there is an extra song on the cd named "Home". It is another slow song. Not bad...I cannot wait to hear this cd in 5.1.

I picked it up the day it came out and finally had a chance to really listen to it a few times this week. It has grown on me a little more each time. It is not his best stuff, but much better than his last work, The Fragile, which I just never could get into. Of course, my favorite is still Pretty Hate Machine. Listening to it now sounds almost like listening to a pop album as it is no where as dark as his later work, but still the original.

I am curious to pick up the new Gorillaz cd in a couple of weeks.

Beside You In Time is a great song. I have to listen to music when I sleep and my fiance woke up the other night when that song was on and asked me why it was skipping. Agreed it is unbelievable in 5.1. Has anyone had any trouble with their 5.1? It seems some of the lyrics are cut out when listening to the cd in surround sound.

Cool interview. You would tell that many of the lyrics in this song were about his battles with addictions.

The comment about him still writing more songs is great to hear. He's been hinting at a lot of stuff, so I'm expecting another album probably by the first of the year, likely being a continuation of this album (probably more along the lines of a concept album). Very cool stuff which ever way it shakes out.

I just had to share this. My wife asks me tonight which CD is number 5 in her car's CD player. I am thinking she has broken it getting it out of there because it is the new NIN CD. She assures me she has not broken it. I then figure out she was actually listening to it and she likes it. She very reluctantly admitted that she liked it.

Now, this is a person who prefers light country music and claims I have the music taste of a teenager as I do not listen to "easy listening" stations as I guess she thinks all people out of college automatically do that. She may just have to play a little more Trent Reznor over Point of Grace or whatever else she has in her CD player (There is a combination I never thought would be together). Maybe I will load up her whole player with NIN CDs.

One thing that women and I do NOT have in common is music. The only chicks I can find that listen to my kind of music are all gothed out, and have a tendancy to attract magnets. Kinda gave up hope on that one. I cant stand country, rap, or hip hop.

Nine times out of ten my wife and I do not agree on music and movies. I think I have finally broken her spirit.

I was in the same boat when I was dating as you mentioned above. I would be dating these freaky looking, pasty goth chics (My floor mates in college called one girl Casper) while I was looking like some frat dork, but we at least liked going to the same clubs.
