New HULU live TV service???

What does anyone know about this? It seems promising. Right now, I'm paying close to 300 a month to Comcast for Internet and a couple of cable boxes with HBO. With my new tmobile plan, I have unlimited LTE Internet and can just set my phone up as the house's WiFi hub. The Hulu service is 40 bucks. So I'm replacing 285 a month with 55. Anyone tried it yet. It seems pretty new.

If anyone tries it out, I'm interested too. We're currently using Playstation Vue, but the Hulu service caught my eye. I think they're missing a few channels we would want though still.

I would do a lot of research about your replacement plan's access to live sporting events. Web TV plans are fantastic for non sports fans. There is some sports access but universal access to NbC Sports, Fox Sports, ESPN, BTN, etc seems like it was a bit flaky when I was trying these out a year or so ago (Vue, etc). Maybe Abenaki can share his experience of trying to watch the network provided apps or feeds (separate from the live TV feeds).

Personally, I prefer Vue, but Sling also has been advertising their new ala carte channel selection, so you might want to check into that, too. They usually have a free week (at least) offer going. They both offer quite a few sports channels. When I had Vue, they were offering BTN, as well as various Fox and ESPN channels. Plus, they have a DVR service that lets you record any shows (sports included) that you earmark.

I did a free trial last week. It included all 4 espn channels, BTN, SECN, FS1, FS2, CBSSN and NBCSN. I watched about four hours of Le Mans flawlessly on FS2 Saturday afternoon. The HULU service is great. The fundamental flaw was Chromecast. While watching Le Mans it overheated and burned out its wifi receptor. A little bit of googling and some feedback from the Best Buy guy told me that Chromecast is notorious for the overheating issue sadly.

Other than xbox and Apple TV, Chromecast is the only device available right now. I canceled the service and told Hulu I'll be back when they add other devices. They say it's coming for Roku, Fire and Samsung tvs/blue-rays.

Hulu offers 50 hours of DVR included with the offer to purchase a 200 hour package.

I've been using Sling and Plex DVR for OTA since September. Had some antenna issues at first, but most have been ironed out. Get all the channels I had for $50 to Sling and $30 for Internet. Rather than $110 to Dish and $50 to TWC at the old house. Already had Plex Pass so that was free. Just download anything I miss. Plex DVR takes something equivalent to a gaming machine to stream live to Roku, but it gets better with every update. This is probably over the ability of most people, but it works well for me.

Works well on the iPad, Fire tab, and Android phone. I rarely watch the big TV at night. Watched a bunch of Cavs games on all the channels they are on. The new cloud DVR is slowly rolling out to apps. Costs $5 extra a month, but I got in beta so it's free. No rewind or pause so you are limited to live and the stream is a minute or two delayed so best not to be on BP Spy while you watch. I usually check spy and stats during to's.

Wife hated Sling at first because it is different, but she loves it now. Lot of on demand on most of the channels and DVR on the others.

Do you ever use the standalone apps for other channels? Especially to watch replays?

I haven't had a lot of experience, but channel offered alternate feeds (for browsers, phones, tablets) used to be really flaky about which TV providers they allowed to access their alternate feeds. While that's improved, it seems like some of the internet TV services are having the same initial speedbumps.

I had to do this while I used DirecTV Now for a few months, mostly with FX and AMC. Both of which worked really well. Mainly because their offering was garbage. The only reason I signed up was because I got an Apple TV for $105.

Sorry haven't used the other apps much. Most that I have used in the past were with my dad's TWC account.

I'm going to buy a Roku and give VUE a try. If I like it, I can stick with it and if not switch over to Hulu when it becomes available for Roku. That's the great things about these services, aside from the price. You can switch back and forth with no equipment or contracts until you find the best one.

I'm a little wary of the VUE DVR service though. It doesn't seem as comprehensive as what was on HULU.
