New DC Thread (Merged all relevant)

Nevada, could you comment on what Tucker's role was last year?

I know he was a co-DC, but I was curious how major his role was to that degree. It seems pretty clear he will understand the packages and know the players, but did he help more behind the scenes with gameplanning and such?

Thanks for keep us up to date Alan!

If Blackney is supposedly lying in wait...then I don't see how we'd have to resort to Heacock. I don't care how well YSU recruits or what their talent is like, those stats are horrible. I'm sure he has potential & can grow within a system, but for Tress to jump on someone like that...being the head coach of THEE Ohio State University, I don't see us dipping down to that level. Our DC should be HC quality period.

Question... past Cooper DC

What was the name of the DC, when Cooper first beat Michigan, that broke the glass window in the box, because he was so excited? He also had a warrant for his arrest, at one time, for beating his wife, I believe. Can remember the name.

Was that Mike Jacobs?

Edit: Jacobs was actually an OC, but he was the one arrested for beating up his wife.
I remember Jacobs as the OC punching the glass in the press box, but I don't know what game that was. Here's info on his arrest:

Mike Jacobs
Ohio State University assistant football coach Mike Jacobs was arrested for allegedly beating his ex-wife on January 16, 1999. Jacobs’ former wife claims that he hit her several times in the face, pulled her by her hair and shoved her against his car. Ohio State University had temporarily placed Jacobs on paid administrative leave pending resolution of the charges.

Yes, but JT won many NCs at YSU, Heacock hasn't come close to winning one.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
You are absolutely correct. But as I recall, many folks were still skeptical of Coach Tressel because he was coming from a division I-AA school, not from the NFL or a division I powerhouse (like Arizona State).

My connection, which I have been consistantly correct has informed me that the new Defensive Coordinator will be Coach Jon Heacock from Youngstown State. He has already started the process of transition. My source, a former player with Youngstown State, let me know that Coach Heacock is an amazing defensive coach!!!!

From my knowledge, it would be highly unlikely that Coach Tucker is coming back at any capacity...You heard it hear first- No Chance of Tuck coming back to the Shoe, unless he is scouting from the stands.

Already been decided..Tucker has the offer....its his job to take--

If he passes it goes to Gary Blackney--end of story---

Heacock is a third option. Don't believe anything else.
Whose reputation will take a hit? One is right, the other isn't. We shall see.

Hopefully nobody sees it as somebody's reputation taking a hit.......if I could elaborate more I could tell you information that would support both of their views....

I am not familiar with Buckshot (feel free to pm me BuckShot), but I do know that NevadaBuck not only has fantastic information, he is a great guy to boot....

Tucker

Tucker: + he knows the kids already not making wholesale changes and looks like he went with the Cleveland Job when Snyder decided to stay put the first time. No one else on the list has this background and with conservative minded Tressel that would be the best solution and Ideal fit.

Tucker would make the move because it will take him a long time to get to the Head Coach job on his current track with Cleveland and now it is obviously demonstrated the DC job gets you there fairly quickly. Especially if you win a NC and this defense could do it. Nevada has to be right and it will be a done deal.
