New boxes, new software! Having trouble logging in? Clear browser cookies!

I just did this myself after googling the problem where I couldn't delete a number of my cookies.

I'll report back, but as of now... it seems to be working for me. I was able to nav to another site and come back without logging in... which I've not been able to do before.

My session survived the night... multiple login / logouts. Clearly related to saving favorites being selected in IE8.

I've been trading messages with the vBulletin developers. They say our cookies and settings are how they should be. The theory is that those suffering problems staying logged in after being idle in IE8 have browsers that are simply struggling with the fact that we moved and changed some settings.

What they recommend is that those suffering these issues go into settings and add BP as a 'trusted site.' The theory being that the elevated security related to the changes simply has your browser confused, and adding us as trusted will get it to relax.

You might also try deep tissue massage, if you can figure out where IE8's back and shoulders are.

Anyway, if you're still getting logged out, you might try that (trusted site).

If that doesn't help, they suggested I be clear that when IE8 users clear their cookies for BP, that they not be on the site when they do it so as to ensure that nothing is retained.

Hope something in here helps.

:banger:

That number of people online is a little misleading, as we've increased the session timeout time (the number of seconds before an inactive user isn't considered online) in order to try and sort out the problem some IE8 users were having getting logged out.

Nonetheless, traffic was up today and the site flew. I really can't wait to see it on a game day (or when the NCAA ruling comes down). I think it will hold up brilliantly, but the proof will be in the pudding.

Am happy everyone is pleased with the upgrade though. It wasn't an easy decision to (a) leave the colocation facility/partner BP has had since day one, and (b) to make a significant investment in hardware when things are already so tight. I think it's all going to be worth it though (I think it already is).

1. Thinking that maybe using the old bookmark was the problem I tried this: www.buckeyeplanet.com/whatever
and got this:

Not Found

The requested URL /whatever was not found on this server.

Apache Server at www.buckeyeplanet.com Port 80

Am now going to close out and see what happens.

2. And what happened is that for the first time this week I was directly entered into BP without registering. Have to go teach for a bit, but will try again and hope for same results.

3. For the record I'm on a Mac using snow leopard OS and using Safari as my browser.

4. And now, 30 minutes later and on a university owned Dell with windows, using Internet Explorer, it works again.

5. I see Reverend Fallwell has "laid hands" on the problem. Praise the Lord, amen.

Yeah that's the basic process for most browsers. For my browser, Dolphin, it was under settings, then privacy and security, then the clear cookies spot was visible.
