Buckle is right.....I do seem to have a lot of problems for somebody who is living in a computer related dream world.

Anyway.....last night my wireless connection started crapping out on me. It would connect, but I couldn't do anything online. I just switched to one of my neighbor's unlocked networks and went on my way. Well after a while I decided to try and fix it. I found some post somewhere online that said something might be interfering with the channel my router uses. I connected to it and changed it from auto to 6 (random) and ever since then I can't even connect to it at all. I can't even connect straight to the modem, it just hangs up on aquiring network addresses.

Anybody have any ideas? I can't even connect to the router anymore to fix what I changed.

And it does this even when you plug in to the router via ethernet?

Might actually be somethin with your network card. You are running XP?

If so, try this:

Start, Run, type in cmd and open up a DOS prompt.
Type netsh dump, which will reset the tcp/ip stack. Reboot and see what happens.

Also when the little status icon is trying to aquire an IP, you can right click it and choose repair. It can sometimes diagnose the problem.

I was able to connect to the router using a 3rd PC and I changed what I did back to what it was before.

I don't even think it's the router. I took the ethernet cable right from the modem and plugged it into this PC and I still couldn't connect.

cable comes in from the wall to the cable modem...cable modem goes into the router...router goes into desktop and wirelessly to 2 laptops, PS3, Wii.

if i take the modem -> router cable and plug it directly into this laptop, it still won't connect.

the router didnt reset if all those settings were still there. maybe you have to hold the button longer. each router is different. it really needs to be completely reset. if it doesnt work after that, I would say the router is shot.

ok so I can now get online with just the modem....which I figure means there's something fucked up with the router. I reset the router and it kept some kind of security feature (according to the wireless network list.) But I can still connect to it with no password. It gives me an error of "Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network belkin54g....but I can still go to 192.181.2.1 and access all the router properties. Once I'm in, I have access to any part of the router, but I can't get online and I can't search for a firmware upgrade. I'm assuming the firmware upgrade is done through the internet which doesn't fucking work.

any ideas before I smash this piece of shit into 40 pieces and go get a new one? how does the modem AND the router stop working at the same time? I know the modem was fucked up at one point because I unplugged it 5 times and plugged it back in and it still wasn't working. Now it is.

what the fuck is that bloody lamb?

well keep in mind that when you plug into the modem, you have to reset it as well so it will assign an IP to whatever device is plugged into it.

I would say that the router has a prob. You can download the firmware update via belkin's website, and manually go into the router and update it. Other than that, I'd say the router is fubar, and I would get a new one.
