Need help finding a disruptive application

I have an issue with my PC where an application or process will all of a sudden start up and run and then shut down. It is very quick (1-2 seconds) and is disruptive because it will interrupt what ever I am doing and minimize my applications, particularly games, and bring up the desktop. Is there any way to find a log or a way to capture what is happening so that I can prevent it?

run a spyware tool such as - spyboy or adaware, that sounds like the problem to me.

Next time it happens hit your PC with a hammer. Wait 10 seconds and then say "I am the almighty fruit loop."

That should take care of it.

you can get a trialware version of norton security which includes anti virus. probably 30 days trial. It will clear out viruses. make sure you read the installation instructions.

Run msconfig.
Disable all your startup items.
Restart.
Slowly add the startup items back one at a time until the errors return.
