Nebraska vs tOSU, Noon ET, Oct. 24, FOX

I feel like its missing some f words and maybe Launching or leaving your feet but acceptable
I had some "youth football coach" respond as follows:

So, if he doesn't hit him that way, it's a first down.

But if he does hit him that way, it's a first down, a 15-yard penalty, and ejection.

Hmmm, which to choose?

Number one concern right now is the run game. Not sure if I should be that concerned though because the run game looked less than stellar the first game last year too.
Chambers looked good and probably should get more time, Sermon looked pretty good but i thought he missed some holes and instead chose to run up the backs of ome people though he got better as the game went on, Teague got what was blocked and not much else. Oline needs to be better though and I hate, hate hate montioning the tight end in on 3rd and short cause 95% of the time all it does is bring another player into the box.

1) Justin Fields is a special, special player. He made it look so easy today, just dropping the ball seemingly wherever he wanted it to go. Enjoy this season, because he's the best we've ever had, and will be hard to ever top.
2) As much as I gushed about Fields above, I can say the same about the receivers. Wilson is ridiculous. Olave is special. Then you have youngsters like JSN, Fleming, Williams and others. Did Gee Scott see the field? We have an embarrassment of riches here.
3) Then there's the run game. Welp. Was it more a function of piss-poor run blocking or underwhelming RBs? I'd say a mix of both. Sermon had a couple of nice runs, but also appeared to go down pretty easily. From what I saw today, Teague is a situational back at best. He is a downhill runner with no wiggle. If he has holes, he can break off yardage in chunks. If he has to find holes and slither through them, he's probably a 3 ypc back like he was today. Chambers was the best looking back today, but it's a very small sample size. This is a huge area for concern going forward.
4) O-line had a bad game. Really bad. Run blocking was mostly atrocious. Pass protection was...okay. Lot of work to do here. At least I don't recall any false starts?
5) Defense got off to a very shaky start but played an excellent second half. Even so, I saw a lot of stuggles getting off blocks. DL had some really good series and some really bad. LBs are my biggest area of concern. I can't remember many positive plays by that unit and they were nowhere to be found on many of those big QB runs. Felt eerily similar to 2018.

All in all, some positives a few negs, but I'll take a 50-spot and 5 TD win in the opener after such a disjointed off-season.

I agree 100% I've always been a fan of opening the field by formation. If we would do it enough we would really have play action available off of it.

Force teams to go small and when they do kill them inside.

I agree with the take that this reminded me of last years opener. The only difference is you could tell the defense was nasty from the first series.

This time I felt like it was 2018 all over.

Another notice in my negative captain Morgan ridden mind is we ran way way way too much man. Nebraska ran motion a ton to see if we would follow and sure enough every single time we did.

I love Klatt but he was wrong in these targeting calls.

Shoot the hit on Olave was close too.
The hit on Olave was targettng called any other year. Launching leading to the head as he's in the grasp of an opponent is pretty much the defination of the kill shot this rule was trying to legiislate out of the game and they didn't even talk about it. Olave also had the bad luck of the other defenders helmet hitting him on the other side as his head whipped.

Well I told my wife... okay typically WRs don't fumble the ball, have extended arms, and get KOd unless they're hit in the head.

Number 8 for NU can go fuck himself on the 2nd one he should have been booted on the first.
