Huskers are building something special at Pinnacle Bank Arena

The lucky ones just stood in line. Hundreds of them. Four long lines, outside Pinnacle Bank Arena. This was big game Sunday, Nebraska-Wisconsin, and they were there waiting, at least an hour before tip. They could have hung out at one of the spots across the street. But they couldn't wait to get in.

“I know they were there,” NU men's coach Tim Miles said. “I thought about going out there and waving (and riling up the fans), but I was focused. I decided to go in the back door.”

If you build it, they will stand, period.

This was “No Sit Sunday,” a fine concept for a big game. Everyone stand the entire game. Never sit. But this is Nebraska, now. You try that at a football game and somebody will come after you. Down in front.

But they stood and stood and stood, most of the game, even when Wisconsin was controlling things and Husker shots weren't going in. They stood. Hoping. Waiting.

Oh yeah, and they screamed and wailed and cheered a bit, too.

“One time down the floor, Gasser (Josh, Wisconsin guard) came running by me and said, 'Can you believe this?'” Miles said.

“After the game, one of their guards, I can't remember who, said, 'This is my all-time favorite game. And we lost.'”

If you build it, you will dance.

There's no doubt now. Nebraska played its way into the NCAA tournament, knocked down the door of the dance with a 77-68 victory over No. 9 Wisconsin.

The win put it in the No. 4 seed in this week's Big Ten tournament — how about that? — and gave it a first-round bye until it faces the Ohio State-Purdue winner on Friday. A loss there may or may not knock the Huskers into the play-in game in Dayton next Tuesday.

There is nothing safe when it comes to guessing these things. But the Huskers can feel good now. They're solid.

A Wisky player's all time favorite game was a loss at Nebraska......

They've actually got a decent team this year--they're 1-4 in conference but of those 4 losses:

- 31 point loss @OSU, but we saw last night they rebounded well from that when the two teams played in Lincoln
- 10 point loss @Iowa -- not a bad result as Iowa is a good team this year
- 6 point loss @Purdue -- close loss on the road suggests they should win when the two teams play in Lincoln
- 1 point loss vs. Michigan -- Nebraska should've won that one

That hasn't been the easiest beginning to the Big Ten schedule, and with two games against each of Indiana, NW, Illinois, and Penn State, along with home games against Minnesota and Purdue, I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska ends up at or above .500 in conference play this year.

When you're right as infrequently as I am, you've got to bask in it a bit. :sneaky:
