Nebraska -5.5 at UCLA (ov/un 60.5) Sat 7:30 ET, Fox

I was at the game- the three most glaring issues that I saw were the failure of the defensive line to get any pressure (sounds familiar to OSU fans), the ability for UCLA to throw the crossing patterns effectively because the linebackers were either chasing or in the wrong position and the inability of anyone to make a tackle (poor angles, wrapping, etc.).

Oh, and Taylor Martinez is back from wherever he was hiding in their game against Southern Miss. He had a couple of nice throws, but a ton of the sidearm, poor form "chucks" that are his historic style.

I hope you guys can get back to your Blackshirt ways on D, like the way you guys played against us in the 2nd half last year (witnessed that game first hand in Lincoln). Minus Sparty (who also happens to be Sparty) and Ohio State (who is still learning the ropes of what it takes to be great), the rest of the conference is stinking up the joint right now. I think you guys have the potential to be a great team if y'all can get things figured out on D like I think y'all are capable of.

UCLA was NOT an offensive juggernaut last season. Either they got better or Nebraska's D really stinks.

Word on the street is we might be switching to a 3-4 defense right now.

More rumors - a four-star DT has reportedly left the team after the UCLA loss, which is further helping fuel the 3-4 rumors.

I have no idea what's going on here in Lincoln. I do know you don't typically have success switching up your defensive scheme in the middle of the season.

I also know something is horribly broken with this defense, and it needs to get fixed.

Rumor no more:

LINCOLN ? Nebraska has lost a key member of its defensive line rotation, which should create more opportunities for younger players at the position.

Sophomore Chase Rome is not on the Nebraska football team and won't be for the "foreseeable future," coach Bo Pelini said Wednesday after practice. Pelini said he'll make an announcement when Rome's status is finalized, but the sophomore will have to work out a "personal issue" first.

"Bottom line is, his personal goals, his personal perception of where he should be on this football team doesn't match the team goals," Pelini said.

Stars mean absolutely shait on the field. You can be a five star stud, but if you can't tackle worth a damn....

Sadly, I'm rather numb to this. It wasn't unexpected.

Just wait, though - Ark State is coming to Lincoln next week. They're #3 in the nation in total offense.

Buckle up. :(

Yeah, Arkansas State can roll up the yards, but Nebraska should be able to name their score. I know Oregon usually has a great offense (at least ppg-wise) and lots of dynamic players, but any time your defense gives up 50 points with 7 minutes still left in the 2nd quarter, well, that's awful. Hell, Memphis could only manage 17 against I-AA giant Tennessee Martin and still scored 22 against Ark State.

Sure, the defense will have an awful struggle, and you'll still probably pull your hair out, but I'd imagine that Nebraska should end up winning 52-28 or something like that.
