Neal Shipley (PGA Golf Pro)

Outstanding! And Moldovan missed by a putt! Great job guys. Someone riddle me this. If Neal finishes, what, top 10? Top 15? Does he get an automatic invite next year? And what if he misses on his money/points, and is relegated back to the minors? Does he still get in the Open? Reminder all, the US Open is just that - Open to all golfers, a club pro can catch fire and shoot low, and qualify. Wasn't Tin Cup a driving range pro? I know, I know, it's Hollywood. However, believe history has shown that an unknown will lead on day 1, but then the seasoned vets will prevail. Anyway, Neal, hit 'em long, straight, and not too often. PS, make a long snake or two. Good luck
Have to finish in the top ten, I believe….

Wish we had a Buckeye cameraman at the Canadian Open, maybe he'd follow Neal a little more closely. Just kidding (kinda), won't happen. But that's certainly great news, BB, keep it coming. And give Harber some pointers about playing in the 'bigs'.

On the final day in the Canadian Open Neal Shipley shot a 72 (2 over) leaving him at -4 for the tournament and tied for 51st place. He did earn $24,598 and 8 FedEx points. The winner came in at -17; Shipley was 13 shots back.

Neal Shipley shot a 71 (+1) and is tied for 29th after the first round of the US Open. The course was damp and played a little easier today. Note, the last time the US Open was played at Shinnecock (in 2018), the cut line was +8 and Brooks Koepka won it at +1 (281). In 2004 Retief Goosen won the US Open at Shinnecock with a score of -4 (276) and the cut line was+6. This is a really tough golf course.

Cut ended up being at +4. Shipley gets to play the weekend.
Just sayin': His game must be picking up. After starting the season in making the cut in just 1 of 10 tournaments; he has now made the cut in 4 of his last 5 tournaments. In 2025 the US Open last place finisher got $41,785; which is the worst he can do. This Sunday he should get his biggest payday of the year so far.

His first year has been surprising to me. I thought he’d be much more up and down with some badly missed cuts and some pretty high finishes, but instead he’s been around the cut line pretty much all year. The good news is that while he started out missing just about every cut by one or two shots, now he’s making them on the number or by a shot or two. The next step is to string together two good rounds on a weekend and start getting some top 25 finishes. He seems to have raised his floor. Now, he needs to raise his ceiling.

He's making a living. Damned if that wouldn't make me happy as hell. He's not killing it yet but he could play 20 years just lingering around the cut lines abs an occasional high finish. That's the freaking life to me!
