Luke Harangody added 10 points and grabbed 22 rebounds, but missed 14 of 17 shots.
No one else scored in double figures. The Irish got just two bench points.
"I kind of feel like I let the guys down," Harangody said, though he had company.
To think, before tipoff, as they walked toward the sideline, McAlarney and Harangody smiled and chuckled.
When Harangody faked out guard Tory Jackson during introductions, backing off their usual hip-bump, even Brey grinned. The Irish seemed loose ? a useful buoyancy, given the stakes.
The stares were blank when they left the court. The end was no laughing matter.

On the other hand, color me much less impressed. He plays a very physical game, uses his bulk well in the paint, and does a lot of things right. But, he's not Oden.
Mullins will be a youngster and we won't have Koufos in there next year either.
My internet tough guy post was in response to that last comment. Posting a contrary viewpoint on an internet message board is hardly "shutting someone down".
And, quite frankly, given his behaviour and views expressed here over the years, I am quite sure that I am not alone in not caring what opinion NDChief might express.
