The NCAA has opened an investigation into North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston's connection with NBA agent Rodney Blackstock, Big Lead Sports has learned. According to a source, an NCAA investigator met with a University of North Carolina compliance officer this week regarding the relationship between the Tar Heels' leading scorer from last season and Blackstock, who played at UNC-Greensboro a decade ago. Blackstock was in the news recently when it was revealed that he paid the AAU coach of Kansas star Ben McLemore thousands of dollars "on behalf of sports agents and financial advisers" who were courting McLemore.

In addition, he was arrested earlier this month:

It's appalling UNC never gt hit as hard as Ohio State. Way worse transgressions including academic fraud and a nanny for Butch Davis in the center of it all. Combined with an assistant football coach working directly for an agent and I don't see how OSU got the treatment it did vs. why the Tar Heels have gotten hit with.

Oh, do not worry, UNC will get theirs. The NCAA will probably prohibit them from playing in the Peach Bowl for one year and Hairston will probably not be able to play for one game this season but it will not be a conference game.

Report: Miykael Faulcon knew PJ Hairston, not Fats Thomas

screen-shot-2013-02-16-at-1-42-58-pm.png

Over the weekend, Eric Prisbell of USA Today blew the lid off of the PJ Hairston controversy when he dug up a second link between North Carolina?s leading scorer and Haydn ?Fats? Thomas.

If you?ve forgotten already ? or if you spent the Fourth of July weekend in a burger and beer induced slumber ? Prisbell found that Hairston was cited for speeding in a car that was rented by a woman who just so happens to share an address with Thomas. That?s a problem, because Thomas was the guy that rented the car that Hairston was pulled over while driving with a suspended license. Hairston was also charged with possession of marijuana and a gun was found outside the car when he was pulled over.

Oh, and should I mention that Hairston has also been linked with the same agent that was involved with Ben McLemore last season?

Report: Four cars rented by Fats Thomas, associate got nine parking tickets on UNC campus

screen-shot-2013-03-24-at-7-49-17-pm.png

And you thought we were done with PJ Hairston news today.

Eric Prisbell ? who has been all over this story ? and Rachel Axon of USA Today dug up more evidence that Fats Thomas, a convicted felon that rented the 2013 GMC Yukon that PJ Hairston was pulled over in during his arrest in early June, has close ties to UNC athletes:

Between Feb. 22 and May 28, the nine citations were issued for four rental vehicles that either Thomas or a Catinia Farrington, a woman who shares his Durham, N.C., address, rented from the Hertz location at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

This isn?t a smoking gun by any stretch, because it?s not known who was driving the vehicles when they were parked illegally, but the circumstantial evidence is starting to build.

All told, Thomas and Farrington spent $15,020.35 on vehicle rentals from the RDU Hertz over a four-month stretch from Feb. 14th through June 25th.

Oh, and they still owe $315 in unpaid parking tickets.

I looked into a little more and the only thing that's out there tying Pryor to this deal is a tweet from some Miami club promoter saying that he had fun with Fats Thomas and Pryor that night, and Pryor follows Thomas on twitter. No clue where Jordan Hall's name is coming from other than him and Pryor being high school teammates.

For some reason I couldn't find the other UNC violations thread so...

UNC faculty leader pushed rewrite of key report to keep NCAA away
Newly released correspondence shows the faculty leader at UNC-Chapel Hill watered down a report into academic fraud to lessen the chances the NCAA would come back to campus.

The correspondence shows that hours before the report's release on July 26, 2012, Faculty Council Chairman Jan Boxill sent the three faculty authors a last-minute email. It suggested they rewrite a sentence that painted a picture of a department manager creating bogus classes to protect athletes' eligibility to play sports.

The authors grudgingly agreed to it, and some key information disappeared from the final version.

Boxill wrote that the request came from other faculty on the council's executive committee. "The worry is that this could further raise NCAA issues and that is not the intention," she said in the email.

I'd feel a lot more righteous indignation against the Heels if it weren't for the fact that the feckless fuckwit Mark Packer were not on the warpath against them.

Bottom line: if Mark Packer hates you, you probably have a lot going in your favor.

Report: UNC receives notice of allegations from NCAA

The University of North Carolina has received a Notice of Allegations letter from the NCAA offices, but the school will not release the details of the investigation until a later date. When that date will be is not yet known. Inside Carolinareports UNC may make a formal announcement later today regarding the arrival of the NCAA’s notice of allegations.

The NCAA reopened an investigation at Chapel Hill last June to follow-up on some new information shed regarding academic irregularities on the campus involving student-athletes. The basis for reopening the investigation was the belief those who previously did not help with the NCAA’s original investigation in 2011 would be more willing to provide details and information.

In October a new report from former U.S. Justice Department official Kenneth Wainstein suggested the academic scandal at UNC was more widespread than initially thought. His report’s findings said more than 3,1000 students enrolled in classes they did not have to show up for to receive credit over decades. Half of those students were also UNC athletes according to the report.
