NCAA Tournament, the field of 65

I think if Illinois and not Minny had been in, the Big Ten would have been 5-0. I also think that Wisky will surprise some folks, despite the first game jitters.

As good as Illinois is...and as disappointed I am with the committee that they didn't make the tournament...I don't think they would've fared much better against Xavier or a team like them...

4-1 is nothing to frown at...the Big Ten's made a good name, I've heard quite a few analysts give them some major credit today. It will be interesting to see how well Wisconsin does, they've got a pretty darn good ball squad.

Hanging out at McCarran waiting for my red eye back to Ohio and looking forward to more hoops! Lots of "O-H" thrown my way today in vegas as I was sporting scarlet and gray - Buckeye Nation is everywhere!

I'm beat...three days out here is all I can take at this age.

I really don't know this rule - if his foot is in the air above the lane when the ball is releaseed, is that a violation?
Not sure I saw this answered, but no, the player's feet cannot cross the vertical plane of the lane until the ball is released.

Rule 9.1.2 (h and i). Page 118 in this .pdf.

h. Players occupying any of the legal marked lane spaces on each side of the lane may break the vertical plane of the lane-space boundary once the free-thrower has released the ball. (See Rule 8-1.)
i. Players occupying a legal marked lane space may not have either foot beyond the vertical plane of the outside edge of any legal lane boundary or beyond the vertical plane of any edge of space (2 by 36 inches) designated by a legal lane space mark or beyond the vertical plane of any edge of the lane until the ball is released by the free-thrower.

Thanks. They showed on ESPN later that it was the guy on the other side of the lane (with his back to the ref that made the call) that actually inched his foot on the floor over the line before it was released, not the guy with his back to the camera that I thought they called it on (whose foot was well over the line but in the air when the ball was released).

The poorer move by the refs in that game was not checking to see how much time was left when the ball went out of bounds under the NM St basket with less than a second left. Only 0.3 was left on the clock, but it should have been more like 0.7, which would have given them time for a catch-and-shoot 3 to try to tie the game.

I think the Aggie coach was trying to get their attention from the other end of the floor, but without a timeout it didn't happen.

I caught that .03 sec error too and thought that was the first time this T that the clock hadn't been reset.
Btw I've missed so many calls in my pics that I'm pretty sure I can't win.
Good choice not to bet on myself.
:wink2:

So what exactly is wrong with this whole thing and how would YOU fix it?
definitely late to this party.....but I would:

- Actually seed teams based on how good they are
- Place teams in brackets based on their seeding and not on a made up excuse
- Given the #1 overall seed the easiest of the 4 regions.....and not the hardest in the history of the tournament
- NOT given the easiest bracket in the history of the tournament to a team that was a 1 seed by default

Teams that were seeded horribly: Pitt, Temple, Cornell, Purdue, Nova

I did 5 days in Vegas when I was 22. By the time I got back, my body was in full shut-down mode and I was sick for a month.

Am I missing something, or was it also bizarre that Michigan State got a 5 when Wisconsin got a 4?
Not really. If you look at kenpom.com, Pomeroy had Wisky as the third-best team in the nation. :yow1:

If the B11 played a true double-round-robin, then you could look at league records as the primary basis for who's better. As it is, you can't. The only really clear thing about Big Ten hoop this season is that, by the end of the year, the Buckeyes were clearly the best team in the conference, and the only other 3 truly deserving NCAA Tourney teams were Purdue, Wisconsin and Sparty. Everything else is pretty murky IMO.

The thing is, it seems like I see guys constantly take a little slide step into the lane before the release. I was originally about to say that they are allowed to, but then decided to double check and it turns out they can't.

Maybe they just have good timing or my eyes are bad.

Oh, and Mickie McConnell's jumper is ridiculous. Make it rain!

Three days at 45 sounds pretty good then.

Home resting/watching hoops. Got no sleep on the red eye (never do) and trying to stay up until the games end tonight (about 10:30), so I can get back to normal sleeping times. But my ass is really dragging at the moment.

I'll get more amped for the Bobcats game, especially if they can stay in it.

Winner$ and loser$ from Vegas (versus the spread)?

THANK YOU: Gonzaga, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Xavier, New Mexico State, Montana, Kansas State, Pitt, Texas A&M, BYU, Northern Iowa, Syracuse, Maryland, Lehigh and Cornell. :pimp:

FUCK YOU: Siena, Richmond, Wisconsin, Georgetown, UTEP, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Marquette, Baylor, Notre Dame, Villanova, Louisville, and Texas. :pissed:

The Buckeyes were a push. Glad I got 'em at -17 instead of -17.5, where it was at tip off.
