NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

It is a trip to Hawaii...and the same number of games as all the teams who go to a bowl game.

The game has been scheduled for years. They don't get to arrive well in advance like they would for a bowl game. You think if any other team on Hawaii's home schedule gets a post-season ban their game with Hawaii should be cancelled simply because it's being played in Hawaii? :roll1:

Agreed. It would punish Hawaii more than it would punish USC.

In a traditional court case, the judge tries to determine if the guilty shows remorse when he decides on the sentence. Guessing right now, NCAA wishes they would have done much more to USC based on Garrett and Pete's responses. Makes one wonder what will happen if/when USC/Kiffen stubs their toe one more time

I guess my post wasn't clear as I thought I acknowledged that in my OP.

I recognized that not playing this game would hurt Hawaii..which is why I said I'd like to see USC have to write a check in leiu of playing this game.

Really...I'm just looking to knock more wind out of USC's sail.

I fully expect this game to be played, and it should be - I just wish USC couldn't tell recruits: yeah, we had some problems, but we are putting that behind us. And even though we won't be in a bowl...we are taking a hell of a trip to Hawaii. I'm actually more interested on the impact of this game to the juniors and seniors already at 'SC who are free to transfer than I am to future recruits.

I'd say the same if it were Michigan or anyone else: Hawaii is a nice pitch. I'd prefer USC not have any ammo to counter the NCAA punishment.

I recognize that this game was already scheduled, would hurt Hawaii far more than USC if it were not played...I just don't like USC. :bonk:

Come on Pete, you can do better than that for an excuse. From page 30 of the Infractions Report:

USC made a big deal about Lake being a convicted felon yet had no problem giving permission to a convicted felon [Ornstein] to hire football players as summer interns and not monitoring the employment relationship. Come on Pete.

EDIT: I see that Pete claims there is no evidence supporting anything. More on the Ornstein relationship from pages 30-31 of the infractions report.

Pages 48-49 continue the discussion of the Ornstein employment matter:

I see that USC is using the Pete Rose Hand-In-The-Cookie-Jar defense.

I'm not going to be surprised when they head out to Hawaii like a week early on some lame ass excuse like getting used to the time difference.....just to make up for the fact that they can't have any Bowl Week fun.

So, what happens if USC wins the conference? Does the runner up get the auto-bid to the Rose Bowl? I'd hate to see a BigTen champ (if not in the title game) playing a 2 or 3 loss Oregon State in what may be the last "traditional" BigTen/Pac10 Rose Bowl.

Aren't there NCAA rules governing such things? (cough, cough)

Back on topic.
It seems if Garrett and Kiffy both stick around for any length of time we could get to see the "death penalty" brought back.
How much would USC have to do to get SMU-ed? They are on probation for 4 years. Can Kiffy stay out of trouble for 4 years? :tongue2:
