NCAA Football 12 + Rosters

Well I just had my first defensive AI problem. FSU QB was scrambling (still behind LOS) and one of my LBs playing spy runs up to LOS and has an easy sack. He stops on a dime, gets into the strife animation/ready position then turns around and faces the defensive backfield with his back to the qb and ball.

Been playing the demo a bit and I'm not sure yet, the momentum and the whole bit obviously are a step in the right direction, but I'm thinking that it's going to end up being a bit rough around the edges this year.

I don't claim to be an expert on gameplay mechanics or any of that [Mark May] but a couple thoughts:

#1 Pass protection needs serious improvement. I've played as all 4 teams and have had way too easy of a time tossing O-linemen aside like rag dolls. My offensive line has had some similar issues..has opened up some nice screen plays.

#2 Speed mechanics..the game does play fast...but it seems like the speed of players is a bit off and again not an expert on game design but I'm thinking that it might have something to do with the momentum mechanics. You can't see the player ratings but there are situations where defensive linemen just feel a bit fast which contributes to their ability to maul the opposing the quarterback almost at will. Just doesn't seem like a defensive tackle should be able to catch Lamichael James from behind too often or that Alabama's new quarterback should be able to break off a 60 yard touchdown on a broken play. My gut instinct is telling me the various speed discrepancies might be due to EA overemphasizing acceleration/momentum, whereas a player with a head of steam has too much of an advantage over a player who has to make an adjustment or cut.

#3 While the new engine is great for power running type plays (assuming you aren't getting eaten alive behind the line of scrimmage by d-linemen) the most noticeable part of not having "warping" is the fact that you don't run into the same "brick walls" when you try to improvise a scramble as a quarterback. Easier to find a running lane and make the defensive pay significantly. Basically your probably going to need to use a spy quite a bit if you can't generate a pass rush like I reference in #1

Not trying to be overly critical, just pointing out some mild concerns. Will still be getting the game since I uncharacteristically haven't purchased it the past 2 years (got Madden last year and regretted it..pro football just bores me)

Apparently OSU recruited a walkon white WR, #89, 6'1 175, frosh, 88 spd 67 ovr.

Devin Smith is 70 ovr has 88 spd and long flowing dreads.

...

 89 ovr Jordan Kovacs, the same rating as Mike Martin (who is an 89-92ish player IMO)

You can also check out the new uniforms. Apparently EA decided to improvise on the 09 OSU Throwback helmets, using the modern center stripe with the old style. Not good. The B1G logo looks sweet though.

Look at them made it easy to skip Gamestop. I'll never need TCU, Boise St, Pitt alternates (especially since the CPU just chooses default unis anyway). That leaves VT and OSU, and both already have alternates included, just not the new ones.

Lucas Oil Stadium looks good (ported). Auburn in the endzone graphic does not

I edited a teambuilder team with the OSU roster. I'm not sure if you can use them with NCAA 2011. The only player rating change I made was Pryor.

Roster changes planned once the full rosters come out (for download):
OSU said:
QB 2 Pryor - QB 19 Graham
QB 9 Miller - #5

WR 6 Louis - rs frosh, not soph
WR 15 Jackson - WR 15 Devin Smith
WR 81 Spencer - WR 18 Ty Williams
WR 89 Reed - #9, dreads, possession WR

LT 59 Longo - RT 55 Tommy Brown
LG 66 St John - downgrade a little

LOLB 55 Newsome - ROLB Moeller

MLB 32 Klein & 6 Sabino - switch ratings

DT 52 Hankins - no dreads

ROLB 11 Dorian Bell - 14 Curtis Grant

CB 3 Brown - to SS

CB 18 Howard - wear #7 with player creation?

CB 30 Evege - CB 30 Allen

FS 4 Barnett - rs soph

SS 20 Oliver - CB 25 Roby

K 25 Basil - #23 (24 is Rod)
Any suggestions for who to turn Longo into?
Texas said:
RB 31 Cody Johnson - 11 not 31

FB #21 Joe Borgeron - true frosh not soph

RB 23 Tre Newton - RB Traylon Shead rs frosh

TE 89 Barrett Matthews - TE 18 DJ Grant

OC 55 Dominic Espinosa - rs frosh not soph

New:

ION 4d helmet with 5 facemasks
Schutt XP
Revo Speed with 3 bar rb facemask, rb robot, and the tebow
Revolution 3 bar linebacker
Adidas cleats

Still in game:

"Standard" helmet with enormous bulge
3 facemasks that don't exist
3 variants of the LT facemask
HORRIBLE 3 bar rb
Neck roll that looks like a hunch back

Not in game:

Revo speed 2 bar qb
Various neck roll options such as cowboy collar and the Douglas collar
More cleats

So after all this hype about new equipment in the game EA added 2 helmets, the Schutt air and the ION 4d, and about 7 facemasks. They also added 2 pairs of adidas cleats.

I think Shazier's the freshman ROLB. I think Curtis Grant was left out for some reason. I'm going to turn Dorian Bell into Grant. As for Longo, I'm turning him into Chris Carter. I'll put him a RG, move Underwood to LG, and Brown to RT.

And man, the Buckeye ratings are crazy low. Sabino's a 79 OVR. Freshmen like Braxton, Doran Grant, and Steve Miller are way lower than I thought they'd be.
