NCAA Football 08 Wishlist

As long as we're asking for more traditions per specific teams, why not a halftime show? Obviously, not everyone is going to want this, but I've always thought that the marching band was a big part of college football. so why not? This would obviously be an entertainment feature, it would not affect gameplay at all. For OSU fans though, you guys could see the band "dot the i" in the game, wouldn't that be cool? I could see a feature like this being limited though, for instance, implementing a limited number of halftime shows would lead to repetition at some point (Which is when you begin to skip them :) ).

As far as other game features, I heard the X-Box 360 version left out a lot of little things that the PS2 version had. 1 thing I would like to see added are the historic campus items and locations that the 360 had. For instance, I know ND had "Touchdown Jesus" on the 360 version, and possibly the Golden Dome. I saw Howard's Rock in the 360 as well I think. I also believe the 360 did a great job getting players (at least on the big name teams) to look like their real life counterparts.

Little features I would like to see:
Medical redshirt, and the abilty to recruit from all possible players during season. In conjunction with my band propossal, I'd like to see more band tunes added. I'm not sure about Ohio State, but does the band in game play "Hang on Sloopy"? I'd like to see ND's band play the 1812 Overture, the Imperial March, and a few other tunes like this. Maybe theres copyright issues here, I dunno. I think it would add a lot of real game feel to it though. As others have mentioned before, I'd like to see the fans rush the field after a big win. The player celebrations at the end are kinda lackluster, if you just won the National Championship, the celebration is kinda dull. The play editor would be a nice feature, I've definitly exploited a few defenses on Madden before. Of course, better entrances would be nice, and since they have ESPN on board now they could do the Gameday stuff with highlights before and after the game which was also mentioned.

Cut scenes of the band could work well for this, imo... rather than devoting time/resources to individual halftime programming/design.

How about the ability to steal committed recruits... which gambles with your reputation?

ESPN had this three years ago in their NFL game. Now both hard drives have hard drive options, making it easier to store plays.

It would be great to archive the 4-5 best plays of the heisman candidates for the downtown club presentation.

Cut scenes wouldn't be bad, it would definitly be a cool addition to the features they already have. The halftime show is thinking big, and if you're the type of guy that just wants a straight football game, a band production is a complete waste of time. Personally, I like Madden and all, but I enjoy NCAA Football much more because of the traditions of college football. A halftime show is a part of all that pagentry I guess, and from a real game perspective thats basically the only big part of the real game missing. Honestly though, I'd be happier if they just added some cut scenes and more tunes, a band plays more than just their fight song!

This is an interesting idea, I like it. The only thing is, to me, it seems a lot of players are very...cookie cutter. You get to see all the talent in the country, they may not be interested in your school, but with some good recruiting you may get them interested and sign. Since you have access to all the recruits basically, unless you're having problems drawing good talent, you probably can get the kind of players you want. Of course, this could work both ways too, other coaches could try to steal your players. I would set it up the same way the game handles departing players, allocate recruting resources for players you want to pursue who have verballed with other teams, and use those same resources to convince your recruits to stay with you.

As far as the highlights on GameDay, I think this can be done without actually saving the play. For instance, take the game of the week. The system already knows when a "Game changing performance" occurs. You could store one of these in memory and play it again after the game. Even if you didn't play in the big game, the system could store one of these plays it simulated or simply recreate it. The system stores all the scores/stats anyway, so it probably already has or has the capability of storing a couple plays temporarily.

Cut down on stupid celebrations between plays. A team is down 49-14, the running back gets the 3 yards, and he celebrates. What's up with that?

Be able to turn off player ineligibility stuff. You can turn off fatigue and injuries. I know it makes the game more realistic, and I'd usually have it on. But sometimes I don't want to screw with that stuff.

Goofier-looking players. I want to create a player who is 7'10" tall, 125 pounds. And I want him to LOOK like he's 7'10", 125. Or, maybe I want him to be 4'10", 400 pounds. And he has to look like it.

Play editor. They had it for '98 or '99. Or both. I had the one for PS1 - it had Woodson on the cover, I think. I don't remember, because I threw the cover away. The load-screen had Michigan and Nebraska on it. Anyway, it had a play editor. Maybe they thought it was too easy to make so cheeser plays.

Shot-Ginn formations.

Punt return formations with 2 returners.

More kick-off return formations.

The team kicking-off should get to choose where to spot the ball for the kick-off.

Get rid of the third-person angle for kick and punt returns, and interceptions and stuff. Or, at least be able to turn that view off.

Less control of your team in Legend mode. (Or, at least an option to change it). If the game is going to be realistic, your RB legend shouldn't be deciding what plays are called. And what's he doing as a starter as a freshman, anyway? His rating is in the low 80's, and he's starting over someone in the 90's? As a freshman, your dude should see limited playing time. You shouldn't get to call the plays, or control anyone except your legend. I know that a lot of people wouldn't find this much fun. So, that's why maybe that's an option you can turn on/off.

If you create a team and use them in dynasty mode, you should be able to change their information through dynasty mode. If you make a crappy, 1-star team, and give them a crappy, 20,000-seat stadium, you fill it up by the time you get them up to 3 stars. If you give them an 85,000-seat stadium, you have this disgustingly empty stadium for a couple of years. And if you fill up an 85,000-seat stadium for a few years, you should be able to build on to it. Maybe you can unlock super, gargantuan stadiums to play in, if you get a high enough attendance for enough years.

I also think that they should keep track of team records for created teams, in dynasty modes. To my knowledge, they didn't add that feature for 2007.

Computer-controlled teams run the direct snap to the halfback way too often. Not that it's hard to stop. Just pretty annoying.

They also run the halfback pass too often. Same deal.

Make it for PS2. I don't want to buy a PS3. I may be stuck with 2007 forever.

They should also make it so you can choose what each individual player works on to improve in the off-season. You've got a guy who's faster than a lasagna hitting a goose standing on a rock, but he can't catch the ball if it hits him in the hands. Get that horse's bitch of an ass some practice catching the ball in the off-season.

I've been thinking more about this one. You should be able to zurp some of your budget toward maintaining/improving your stadium. If you don't put enough money in, your attendance decreases, or field crumbles, etc. If you putt more than enough in, capacity increases. Maybe other super-fun happy things happen. I don't know. But that might be hella cool.

A half time show with band performances would be awesome, but boring after a while, what they should do is have the camera pan around the halftime performance while the guys give half time analysis and maybe cut to them with the band in the background. It would be awesome for away games, out of conference games, to see other bands and traditions.

I guess that would be cool, but I would just skip it, most of the time.

I guess if you wanted 3-4 discs then you could have that format. If I was going the PC route, I think I'd have to say PC|DVDROM.

Oh and I definitely want to be able to upgrade facilities/stadium. I'm currently in the 9th or 10th season with Louisiana-Monroe, we've won 4 national championships in a row (most recently against TCU... ULM-TCU in the national title game = amazing) and I can't get the stadium pulse above 50dB. :(

What I've had to do is bring some of the Div 1AA schools that have bigger stadiums up to Div 1A level. I'm currently playing as Jackson State. I had to create players with the exact ratings as Erik Haw and Marcel Frost so I could at least have some decent players on the team.

I've been Yale and Harvard too. The first year is a bitch, especially if you don't feel like playing other D 1AA teams all year, but this is truely the only way to build a program. It actually takes more than three years to build a team from a D- across the board team into a National Title contender. Especially if you don't cheat using pennants. And you can actually get an attendance over 40,000 per game. I've still never been able to get one of these stadiums on the toughest places to play list though. Regardless of how many undefeated seasons I get.

I'm convinced that a created team can't be on the "Toughest Places to Play" list. You can get your stadium pretty loud, never ever lose a game, and you're still not on the list. They should change that.

I'd also like to turn off the unsportsmanlike penalties. I tried turning the slider all the way to one side, but I still got penalties. I tried turning it all the way to the other side, but I still got penalties. I'm convinced that the slider is broken.

I think they also need to fix the LSU uniform deal. Actually, I think that LSU, in real life, should fix their uniform deal. But the game, at least, should fix it, to match what it's like in real life. In case you don't know, LSU has some retarded deal about their dark (home) uniforms. Therefore, they wear their white uniforms at home. Visiting teams, then, wear their home uniforms at LSU. However, NCAA has the default for every other team to wear white on the road, and dark at home. So, when you visit LSU, you both wear white, and when LSU visits you, both wear dark uniforms. Of course, before the game, you can change your uniform, but that's too hard for me to remember. I don't always pay attention to who I play next. It annoys me to see two teams wearing white, or neither team wearing white. So, I refuse to play LSU. There might have been another team that had the same situation, in a previous version. Georgia Tech, maybe? Anyway, I think they fixed that team. But I'm not sure.

I think they should stop changing the f'in controls. I've been playing this game for years, and I found the most recent edition for Xbox to be unplayable.

Good point - though, I've never played for Xbox. They keep changing the controls for PS2, as well. I find the most recent controls for PS2 to be the easiest. But maybe that's just because I'm used to them, now. You ought to be able to change the button assignments exactly the way you want to. I believe that there's a way you can change them somewhat, but they only give you a few options.
