NCAA accuses Alabama State of 668 rules violations - USATODAY.com

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) ? The NCAA has accused Alabama State University of 24 rules violations in four sports and charged the school with lack of institutional control.

The university received a notice of allegations last week after an NCAA investigation of nearly five years. The allegations were reported in Wednesday's Montgomery Advertiser.

Nearly 500 of the 668 alleged instances of rules violations involved ineligible football players being allowed to work out in the offseason. Forty of them stemmed from football players whose grades were changed without the knowledge of the instructors.

So let me get this straight... 668 violations of 24 different rules? Sounds to me like they're slipping. Back in the day Alabama would have violated at least 500 different rules given 668 tries to do it.

Death penalty. Changing grades without instructor notice to keep them eligible??? Buh-bye.
I'd think the NCAA might be eager to drop the death penalty on another institution anyhow, just as a display of power and proof post-SMU that they'll still do it.

I mean, as a primer for when they get to use it on a real university in five years, like USC. :paranoid:

The bastards even changed that! Insidious!
Don't fuck with Nick Saban.

Little known fact is that when he offers 35 different guys scholarships to Alabama, what he's doing is just scribbling 'State' on some of the offers for the 10 guys that he decides he doesn't want.

It's a win-win for the kids, cause they all think they're eventually going to Alabama, you know, since they can't read. :p

Part of the university's response to the NCAA allegations......

University officials are reviewing the notice of allegations to determine if the alleged infractions are credible. The University will respond to the notice of allegations by June 27, 2008.

You mean to tell me with 668 violations and allegations of grade tampering coupled with a 5 year investigation by the NCAA you (Alabama State administration) still don't know if the (alleged) infractions are not credible...... That is just plain incredible....:(

I really hate it when stuff like this happens.

So let me get this straight - it's ALABAMA STATE that is the worst offender? And of course it's the one that the NCAA is going to crack down on.

I think it's pretty easy to see that larger more prominent sports universities (USC, Ohio State, Texas, etc.) are breaking the exact same, if not more, number of rules. But the NCAA is all about the money, and if USC goes down the tank (god forbid!), then the NCAA is a monster and cruel.

But if they ruin Alabama State, they're staying true to the rules that they set... but it's Alabama freaking State and 7 people are upset.

It's just bullshit.

The NCAA needs to make it clear or not clear - if you cheat, will you be punished? It can't have a sliding scale for how much money that particular school gets.

It's just like the NBA playoffs this year. Some of the roughest fouls I've seen in the post season. There were suspensions last year, but now that it could be Boston Los Angeles in the championship, you can bet that there won't be even a whisper of a suspension for either of those two teams.
