You can if you save it as a seperate roster file. Last year I had around 5 roster files. 1 was the default roster with the players named. The others all had players that were edited in ratings, positions, etc. I had no problems playing online (XBox.)

lately I am having problems playing with just my named roster file. I have to start the PS2 with no memory card, then wait until they ask me for my network configuration to put the memory card in. no player names for me :(
