Here comes the BOOM
Darren McFadden.

Darren McFadden is the NCAA Football 09 cover athlete (360) | pastapadre.com

As speculated upon after the news that Darren McFadden would be the Xbox 360 cover athlete for NCAA Football 09 broke, EA has made it official that there will be four platform specific cover athletes this year that will come from different regions of the country. If you count the mascot on the cover of the Wii version that means all five will have their own exclusive covers. The PS3 version will be announced on April 24th with the PS2 and PSP covers being announced in early May.

Thinking in regional terms (assuming McFadden is repping the south) I would look at players like Matt Ryan or Chris Long from the east, Mike Hart or Rashard Mendenhall from the north, and Dennis Dixon or DeSean Jackson coming out of the west as good possibilities. Who do you think will make the final three covers?

NCAA Football 09 will unveil the all-new Break Away Animation Engine which allows gamers to break in and out of moves giving the user more direct control as well as instant influence and responsiveness on the field. At its core, NCAA Football 09 will focus on wide-open collegiate style gameplay featuring unique animations that you will only find on college football Saturdays. This style of gameplay will allow agile backs like McFadden to show off their break out speed and maneuverability in-game.

Oh crap... Well.. I dunno.. It can't be bad in all.

They were already not going to do College Hoops 2K9, so I guess it was the beginning of the end.

We lose great basketball games, but on the upside, hopefully they do this right, and combine the two games positives, making an ultimate verison. We all know this won't happen, but I can dream.

Then as far as other games, it could be really interesting.. Games like Bioshock, mixing with Army of Two? Alright!

If it comes through.. And I have no doubts.

I remember playing 2k5 football, and thinking damn this is so much better then madden and for 20 bucks...It seems like every EA game is basically the same year after year. They will add new features but the gameplay and graphics look the same over and over...I guess it's a lot easier to continue to control the market instead of making a better game.

Yeah, I don't see any company in the near future taking over EA's hold on most of the sports market. They make money hand over fist just with the NFL and NCAA Football games. Fight Night has done well too. Not sure on the other genres.

NCAA Football 09 Interview-Features-030708-0d0c0-gametap.com

From an atmosphere side, if you look at what we brought last year, we had beautiful stadiums. Our stadiums have always been beautiful, but how do you make the experience more vibrant, how do you make it stand out? We want to show the contrast between the home and away teams. The sidelines are now populated and you'll see cheerleaders doing stunts. When you looked at it on PS2, the cheerleaders were part of a cutscene. Now, you'll be driving down the field and you'll see them on the sideline doing stunts and cheers in unison, and it's really cool. That's the kind of stuff we want the fans to appreciate. The subtle things.

Edit: Mods, any way that this can be changed to an official NCAA 09 info thread?

Amen to that.

That's another bitch of mine about ea...They will show you the up close instant replay look of a play on a commercial..I have to say that I have never played an entire game in instant replay so those graphics really have nothing to do with the game whatsoever imo...How about showing that the graphics (on field during play) rarely change at all and small changes when they do.

I'm glad somebody started a topic about this already. I'm pumped up for this game since getting my ps3 for Christmas. I'm not sure I like that there will be 4 cover athletes. Mcfadden is the cover athlete for the Xbox 360, Sparty the MSU mascot is the Wii cover art....so like you said, they haven't announced yet who will be on the cover of the ps3. Frankly, I'm a tad concerned. The last version of this game I bought was '05...with Desmond Howard on the cover for ps2. That alone was difficult to swallow. I thought about buying last year's game...but decided to hold off for this year's. Plus...Zebransky from Boise St on the cover just seemed very lame to me.

With Mcfadden on the cover of Xbox already...I'm worried I'm going to have to buy a game with Jake Long on the cover or someone even more lame like Matt Ryan. Maybe by the hand of God Vernon Gholston will get the nod...but I highly doubt...I'm trying to think of someone else who would even be considered, and I can't. I don't see any receivers making a push for the cover, and the running back position has been taken by Mcfad. That basically leaves a defensive player and qb..

Dont they have a NCAA09 competition and the winner of that gets his pic on the box.............
I'm not 100%, but I thought the deal was that the player/winners of the EA tournaments were guaranteed the spots in the opening montage, the commercial montages where they show the in-game footage, or as one of the screen-caps on the back of the box.

The cover is chosen separate from all of that.

I love the EA games, but there's glaring needs in both of them. I wish everybody didn't run the same. They changed it one year on Madden, then they went back to the old school ways, where there is just one generic run. There's more complaints to come...lol.
