Per Matt Parker, after checking with sources it doesn’t sound like Ohio State was pushing too hard for him this early.

Alex G saying the same this morning, Ohio State was not ready to accept a commitment from Zavion Griffin-Haynes.

Said he’s a very raw prospect and he was projecting they’d accept his commitment after a strong Junior season when he put in his rpm for Griffin-Haynes to Ohio State but the kid didn’t want to wait.

Re: Ohio State was not ready to accept a commitment from Zavion Griffin-Haynes.

Just sayin': This has always seems "goofy" to me. The player gets an offer but the school isn't ready for a commitment. Then he really doesn't have an offer....

The college football ecosystem is a soap opera and nowhere moreso than recruiting. If you're looking for rationality here, there is none to be found! It's just layers of goofy down to and including the foundation.
Exactly, a verbal offer can mean a school is just very interested. And a verbal commitment can just mean the recruit is very interested and now can mean they are shopping NIL deals through a verbal. As to Zavion, he's a junior and may need to show a little more to the staff. If he does, then maybe we see a flip.
