Per Matt Parker, after checking with sources it doesn’t sound like Ohio State was pushing too hard for him this early.

Alex G saying the same this morning, Ohio State was not ready to accept a commitment from Zavion Griffin-Haynes.

Said he’s a very raw prospect and he was projecting they’d accept his commitment after a strong Junior season when he put in his rpm for Griffin-Haynes to Ohio State but the kid didn’t want to wait.

Re: Ohio State was not ready to accept a commitment from Zavion Griffin-Haynes.

Just sayin': This has always seems "goofy" to me. The player gets an offer but the school isn't ready for a commitment. Then he really doesn't have an offer....

The college football ecosystem is a soap opera and nowhere moreso than recruiting. If you're looking for rationality here, there is none to be found! It's just layers of goofy down to and including the foundation.
Exactly, a verbal offer can mean a school is just very interested. And a verbal commitment can just mean the recruit is very interested and now can mean they are shopping NIL deals through a verbal. As to Zavion, he's a junior and may need to show a little more to the staff. If he does, then maybe we see a flip.

Brian Hartline will have his eyes on Devin Carter, a top-35 wide receiver in the 2026 cycle. Four-star defensive end Zavion Griffin-Haynes was high on Ohio State before committing to North Carolina this fall, but he’s still showing interest in the Buckeyes by coming back to campus for a game.

How many of you guys gave your girl a 'promise ring'? Means you're interested, not ready to go steady, and too young for engagement. Recruiting offers are kinda like that. A 'non-committable' offer is a promise ring, a 'committable' offer is, yeah, we'll take your verbal now. Of course, in today's world, even a committable offer isn't final (nor is a signature!). And even when signed, sealed, delivered, and on campus, the 'one-time transfer' allows one to flee to somewhere else. Probably 90% of you/us/we know the above, but sometimes seeing it helps. As Yogi, said "it ain't over, until it's over". Go Bucks! PS, LJsr's MO is to wait, watch, and then offer.
