NBA Discussion (Official Thread)

Anyone still criticizing Giannis needs a history lesson. He's doing things in the Finals that haven't been done in 40-50 years - aka, not even Jordan - and carried his team to the title. Even MJ didn't have to score 40-45% of his team's points. Giannis is a beast, and an NBA champion.

Hard to believe Giannis has played for Milwaukee for 8 years. I thought it was more like 5 or 6 for some reason.
Kid took the long, hard road. Stuck with his teammates, let the franchise build. Signed an extension (after 2 years of E!SPN asking where he’d leave). Now wins a championship in the city that drafted him.

One of the best feel-good, NBA teams/finals MVP I can remember. Rarity in sports for me after the LA/Boston/Bama fests. I can enjoy this one for MKE.

Why didn't he bitch and pout and moan and form a super team?

NBA draft is so weird. Ohio’s Preston going before Ayo from Illinois (or Jared Butler from Baylor, Joel Ayayi from Gonzaga). But credit to Preston - kid has a fun story (former NBA blogger when he was in high school) and was fun go watch.

and Ayo stays in state with the Bulls at 38.

and Wieskamp goes at 41. Still no Duane, and it’s honestly not surprising.

So I saw that Westbrook is now with the Lakers. Aside from the absolute trash the league has become on court, this is the kind of crap that keeps me away from the NBA... I haven't watched a minute of it since 2017. These superstar players all just want to play with their buddies on these fucking "super teams", it's fucking stupid.

And also, LeBron? MJ didn't need to have his team go out and surround him with 2-3 other superstars to win rings. Yes, he also had Pippen (who was developed there, BTW) and later Rodman, but that isn't anywhere near the same. When the "GOAT" discussion happens, that needs to be heavily weighed against LBJ.

The NBA is the equivalent of a Michael Bay movie now; all glitz and special effects, no real interesting plot. It's cool the Bucks won this year, though; so at least there's that.

I don't follow NBA or basketball in general like I do football. It appears NIL is going really change the basketball landscape.

The wealthiest human in the world (Jeff Bezos), one of the biggest hip-hop stars in the world (Drake), and perhaps the greatest basketball player in the world (Kevin Durant) are among the financial backers. So this is a very real thing with serious money behind it -- and, just last week, they ensured two more of the top prospects in the Class of 2022 will never play college basketball. On Wednesday, Overtime Elite signed five-star prospect Jazian Gortman to a one-year contract reportedly worth $650,000. Then, on Friday, Overtime Elite signed four-star prospect Bryce Griggs to a two-year contract reportedly worth $1.2 million.
