So, Indiana seemingly took the worst deal out there. To keep him out of the east I guess?

The pacers are going into rebuild mode, and acquired no draft picks for their departing star player.

Kyrie Irving is making less than Victor Oladipo the next two seasons. Oladipo is owed $21 million each season through 2020-21. OKC just offloaded that albatross for Paul fucking George.

Is that enough to challenge the Cavs? It might be...I actually think Tatum's game translates really well to the NBA, also. Coupled with a certain someone's disinterest in all things Dan Gilbert....

It's enough to challenge the Cavs. It isn't enough to beat them. Thomas is still a defensive turnstile. I personally would've drafted Fultz and traded Thomas away instead of paying him the big bucks next year.

As a Celtics fan, I agree. I'm not interested in giving a max contract to a 5'8" point guard, who can be limited by good teams (as evidenced in the Cavs series), but that decision was made the day Ainge traded away the Fultz pick. Of course, there's no guarantee on what Fultz will be in the NBA. But I still would've preferred that direction given no trades were made to add a veteran with the surplus of draft picks.

That said, I like the addition of Hayward.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the team that will lose the Finals from 2019-2022.

IMO I would have definitely moved IT for picks unless they think they can convince LeBron to play at the Garden for the MLE next summer.

Agreed. I always assumed they would pivot from Thomas before they started to have to pay him $30+ million a year. They obviously have a good team now but they aren't beating the elite teams with Thomas/Hayward/Horford as a big 3 and their young core isn't close to being as promising as the 76ers.

Avery Bradley to the Pistons, Marcus Morris to the Celtics.

This trade makes the Celtics worse, IMO, but I guess they needed to do it to free up cap space for Gordon Hayward.
