Game Thread Navy 27, at tOSU 31 (Sep 5th, ESPN)

A Win is a Win.

Obviously we're going to have to play better next week, but congrats to the Bucks on the win and also to Navy for putting up the fight.

1-0.

Well, in my post I said, "Without a couple big breaks." Which includes a 99 yard drive.

As someone that is also just completely hammered right now, my advice would be put the bottle down, turn off the computer, lay down, and sleep this one off. Michigan will probably be 0-1 when you awaken. You'll feel better then, and will be making much more sense.

Lots of changes on the Buckeye offense and defense this year. We didn't start with a lower-tier opponent or a MAC team. This Navy team is good and we got tested.

There are a few other positives to take away from this game:

We got tested. We don't enter next week thinking we walk on water.

We won. Tested, perhaps even rattled, we stopped them from tying the game.

We played extremely well at times on both sides of the ball and on special teams.

We and USC are well enough coached to know we can play better next week. Our guys will be taking a bit of strain in the locker room right now but, it's a win.

And, a win is a good thing.

This. Said it all man.

I never understand the "keeping the playbook secret" against perceived weak teams, as some people on here have insinuated that Tressel was doing. When you are in a tight game against a team, perceived weak or not, you gotta open it up. Screw that shit about saving stuff for USC next week...what is this, Pop Warner where you don't want word to get around town about your "secret" plays?

A win is a good thing but it would be nice to go into next week with a little confidence. I have to feel that the Ohio State players are doubting themselves a little going into next week after today's performance.
3-12 on 3rd down and 153 yards rushing sucks no matter how positive we try to be.

I don't mean to take away from how great that drive was for Navy, but notice Navy did that once. They had 2 good drives all day.

But if it makes you feel better to write stupid stuff, then ok...

I didn't mean to make my point in that way. I'm just trying to say that Navy came in without any fear and almost won. Many of us fans will say the same things we said after OU last year. It was one play...or...one afternoon practice will correct everything. But we know how the next week turned out.

This team better get it together or it's going to be a long season.

Without a couple big breaks for Navy (The 85 yard pass, Anderson won't give very many plays up...both rushing TD's by the QB were plays we should have/will stop) the Bucks win easily.

An 85 yard TD pass is not a "Big Break". It is a good play, executed well. A big break would be if the OSU defender fell down letting the Navy player catch the ball. (remember the Michigan game a few years back?)

With a freshman QB and a lot of newcomers on "D", I'd say the USC game will go quite a bit differently. They aren't running the triple option, and the Bucks got to the QB often today. Barkley will be fresh meat, look out...

I agree with this part of your statement. The triple option will make any team look bad. We will be better during the USC game.

Ha, just switched back to ESPiN in time to hear May sound incredibly sad that Navy couldnt pull it off.

You know, guys, this guy lives to be mentioned on Buckeye boards. It helps keep him on the air.

Ignore him. If you lost your stones, you'd be living in a strange place mentally too.

Perhaps this is why Purdue is Purdue and Ohio State is Ohio State?

The week before a big game, that has national championship implications, only a fool would panic and open up their playbook.

You are going to have to explain to my old mind what "luck" is involved in executing a 99 yard drive. It's called precision and execution. That drive was a thing of beauty if you're a Navy fan and there was no "luck" involved.

Wow. I have just lost the small amount of confidence I had left in Tressel. Had Navy scored on that 2-Pt and then won in overtime, it would have been all Tressel's fault for putting in Bauserman and then for not kicking that field goal and going up 3 scores. That was completely inexcusable.
