Name the new Big Ten conference

Tressel would have to coach 11 more 10 win seasons to pass up Woody.

Not impossible, but also not likely that Tressel will coach that long.
Once there are 16 teams in the conference with four 4 team divisions, conference semi finals, finals, a BCS bowl game, then the BCS +1 national title game, JT will be on the fast track to passing Woody with the 16 or 17 games a year he'll be coaching.

The Conference of Northern Aggression
Yeah, that would get my vote as best "for fun" suggestion (although the addition of Missouri, and certainly Texas, would cut against the righteous, unionist grain there). Among serious suggestions, I like the idea of retaining BigTen based on state count if schools from 2 new states are added. Despite what a couple have suggested, name brand and tradition do, I think, matter.

And completely off-topic, but brought to mind by DBB's entry, how did UGa settle on The Battle Hymn of The Republic as their fight song? That seems sort of odd, no?

Additionally, just one of the divisions should have a rule for a "designated tackler", where after the ball is kicked off, a player from the bench runs onto the field for coverage,

BB73's "designated tackler" plan was tested in the 1954 Cotton Bowl:

So does the conference finaly change it's name?

I hate to see the name change but now that we are officialy up to atleast 12 teams do we change the name? Despite the Big 12 about ready to fall apart I don't see us stealing that name so if we do change what is it??

If we go to 16 teams, no.

Someone did a decent logo that showed the 16 replacing the IG in big, so it'd be B16 TEN

I think that would work.

That and with adding Nebraska Texas, depending on whatever additional teams joined, we'd be at 10 states. (or more if other states are involved after those two)

No. The big ten was founded in the 1800s. It is a brand and an icon in academics & athletics.

They didn't change for Penn State. They won't for this either.

Well ... yeah, that's because that was Penn State. This is Nebraska!

That's not really accurate jwinslow.

The BigTen is a new legal name. We did not legally become the BigTen until 1987.

Before that we were:

Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives
Big Nine
Western Conference

the first legally, the second two by everyone else.
