Najee Harris (RB Alabama Crimson Tide)

Sam Webb took one in the beans on this one.

So let’s fast forward to the here and now. There are suddenly lots of reports of him trending to Michigan. I’m not sure of the sources of that intel is coming from. The kid continues to be tight lipped and mom has remained radio silent. That said, looking outside of San Antonio for intel has revealed a lot.

I’ll star first with a comment from one of the sources for my lengthy Najee blog last month. This source talked about how Najee was handling looking around and what he would do if he ever decided he wanted to flip.

Said the source, “(Najee) said, ‘I'm not going to decommit because I don't ever want to deal with Alabama fans. He said, ‘if I ever decommitted... I'm just going to go somewhere. I'm not going to ever decommit because I don't want to deal with that.”

I left that out because I felt that at the time it would have made the blog too suggestive. Now it just seems pertinent to include. It does NOT guarantee Najee is heading to Michigan, but that things have played out EXACTLY that source laid out is definitely another factor on the Michigan trend meter. And it does make you ask yourself if he is definitely sticking with Bama, why not say it now? Especially for a kid that doesn’t court media attention. That’s all there will be in San Antonio this week.

Moving on, in the last update I mentioned that for a long time word out of Tuscaloosa had his mom making serious inquiries about making the move to Alabama with her son. I mentioned that recently the same thing started taking place with Michigan.

Now my gut tells me there is a similar dynamic at play for Harris. My gut tells me that the groundwork for him to start at Michigan next week has been completed if that’s what he wants to do. I’m adding him to my best guess list now and I’m projecting him to be a part of the class. At this point I’ve seen and heard enough to convince me that he is either giving both Michigan and Alabama the same reasons to be confident they’re getting him, or he’s going to Michigan.

I’ve been telling you guys for weeks that there were signs that Michigan thought it was getting him, but that I remained hesitant to project him because I hadn’t seen/heard things from Najee’s camp to corroborate that confidence (which is a sentiment that seemed to proliferate in recent weeks). I still have NOT heard from anyone in Najee’s circle that he is going blue. The most they’re saying now is, ‘I don’t know.’ I still can’t give you a "gut feeling." But I can say there are things that I've heard/seen separate from the confident talk that make it sound/look like Najee Harris to Michigan is going to happen. I’m not at liberty at the moment to share what those things are, but you guys know I don’t just throw things against the wall to see if they’ll stick.

When this is all over, and however it plays out, I will divulge what those things are/were.

We won’t have to wait long now to see if he follows through.

I/we will have much more on him throughout the week, so stay tuned.

uesday Najee shared the news with some unsuspecting media members today that which many of us already knew... he is not doing any interviews in San Antonio. He made them privy to the plan that he informed Scout's Brandon Huffman about days ago. He will just show up at the school he plans to attend after the Army game. That switched the focus of some of the media to players who might have knowledge of Najee's plans (or at least believe they do). One specific target was Alabama quarterback commit Tua Tagovailoa. Scout's John Garcia chatted with Tagovailoa and the Hawaiian signal caller shared HIS UNDERSTANDING of things as follows...

-Najee has completed all necessary paperwork to enroll at Bama, including his housing paperwork (my gut tells me he has done the same with Michigan)

-that they will room together at Bama (reports of them rooming together during Army week are false)

-and that he expects Najee to be on the plane to Tuscaloosa with him after the game.

All that says to me is both schools are expecting him on their respective campuses next week. My gut tells both have some nervousness about being pump-faked. Under the circumstances, how could they not? Again, my read on this, either has less of a problem with drama than previously indicated (I'd be surprised if this was the case) he still isn't 100% certain about what he is going to do, or he is choosing Michigan.

Think about today. There were media members noticeably upset that he wouldn't talk (which was ridiculous by the way), but his response to them... that he has always maintained that he doesn't like to do or want to do interviews... begged an obvious question. Why not just say he is going to Bama if he knows that's what he is going to do and doesn't want to talk? All the questions would cease. But the uncertainty during the biggest recruiting event of the year invites attention.

Then you had his brother going on twitter earlier today and stating his clear preference for Michigan... which invited a barrage of negative attention from Alabama fans.

If Bama has already been locked in like Tagovailoa is saying... (when this is over next week I'll share intel from a Michigan commit who has been just as confident for the blue)... then why invite the attention? It just doesn't add up.

I still can't give you guys a gut feeling call, obviously, but despite all the Bama buzz today I'm not changing my projection. Time will tell who the kid follows through with. At this point, if he knows for sure which way he is going to go, only he and those closest to him know for sure too (unless he is taking a page from Donovan People's Jones' book).

But you guys know me. I'm going to keep digging. Tomorrow I'll be chatting exclusively with one of the people in his inner circle to gain more insight. I'll share the details of what I find out afterward.

Until then have a drink or something and relax.

How does one "negatively" recruit against bammer?
I suspect Michigan recruiters would go this route:

Sam Webb nonsense
I followed one of the links from a page or so back, where somebody explained what Sam Webb's "gut feeling" really meant.....that's his phrase for things that he's predicting with any bit of certainty. Which is just so Michigan insider of him. Going back to the days of "sunny side of 50.1%" and them crying whenever NevadaBuck would say something and the opposite would happen. They're all so afraid of ever saying something is going to happen and then being wrong, that they'll say my "gut feeling" is or "I'm 50.1% on" blah blah blah. Then they can back off it when it goes south because it was only a gut feeling.

Grow a pair and actually call something. It must be infuriating being a Michigan fan trying to follow recruiting. I mean......being a Michigan fan must suck in general, but holy crap.

Beav was the master of making predictions without ever saying anything that could come back to bite him later. He always left an out. Webb used to be a little more daring, but it seems since Beav was let go and he's on his own, he's upped the double-talk a quite a bit.

Alabama RB Najee Harris never considered opting out

aid Friday that he never considered opting out, but he conceded that he's concerned about starting preseason practice without knowing whether there will be a football season.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 have postponed fall sports during the coronavirus pandemic, but the SEC, ACC and Big 12 are proceeding with plans to begin the season in September. Alabama opens camp on Monday.

"I'm not trying to go into camp [without] really knowing that we might not have a season or not," Harris told reporters during a Zoom call. "It's just so many uncertainties that it is what it is. That's something to work with, I have to deal with."

Harris said the mood of the team is one of wanting to play but not knowing whether they'll be able to.

"We wish there's more certainty, but we understand this isn't something that's going to be known in, like, the next day or something like that, or the next couple of hours," he said. "It's a pandemic. We understand that."

Harris and quarterback Mac Jones both expressed confidence in the way Alabama and the SEC are handling safety protocols. Harris said that there's hand sanitizer "everywhere" at the football facility and that players test for COVID-19 "more than we practice."

Think its admirable ACC and SEC are working this hard to get a season in....and I think they will. Really disappointed Big 10 pulled plug so early and was so influenced by conferences that are horrible comparisons for the Big 10 (Mac and Ivy...more specifically Ivy League). Ivy League football loses money...no brainer for them.

I'm not going to lie.....I'm pulling for ACC, SEC, and Big 12 to pull this off relatively safely, and to see college football. And if they can, good for them. It will leave the Big 10 in a very vulnerable spot, but you sleep in the bed you make.
