How Scientologists Got Katie Holmes To Marry Tom Cruise

As a child, Katie Holmes told her sisters she wanted to marry Tom Cruise, then one of the biggest movie stars in the world. And when she mentioned the fact in a Seventeen magazine interview in 2004, the Scientologists who had been hunting for Cruise's third wife pounced.
Andrew Morton recently wrote a biography called "Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography." He also wrote an article for the New York Post this week with some crazy details from the book on how Katie was lured into the marriage.
Among the juiciest highlights:
-Cruise asked Scientology leader David Miscavige to find him a suitable wife. Miscavige allegedly believed he was above the task and deputized it to his wife, Shelly, who is now missing.
-Penelope Cruz and Sofia Vergera both freaked out over Scientology and stopped seeing the star. He also dated several other women, none of whom panned out.
-The search committee for Cruise's third wife tried to get Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson for the job. Johansson was the only one who took the bait and agreed to meet with them, but "freaked out" when she learned she was at a Scientology center.
-Then Scientologists struck gold when Katie, 26, mentioned in an interview that she'd like to marry Tom Cruise. They met with her, liked what they saw, and set her up with the star. Six weeks after she broke her engagement with Chris Klein, she was set up to marry Cruise.
-The TomKat marriage was a minimum five-year contract, according to Morton. Katie allegedly received $3 million for every year of service, in addition to big bonuses for every child she gave birth to.
-Originally, Katie was supposed to give birth to "an heir and a spare." Her exit now shows how badly she wants out, according to Morton.
