this example had occurred to me as well. had mili won the bet, I would have been surprised if goodguy would have been allowed to break his break into separate sessions.

Mili said he'd leave for a month (maybe he had a typo or something, but that was what he said during the clarification of the bet). I suppose we can all vote to nullify the bet, but it seems like the bet has changed a bit since it was originally made.

Grad and others were trying to egg some of us on to bet with methomps about USC v Texas. I didn't take the bet b/c he's a little too clever to allow him to choose my sig :) However, had I taken the bet, I'm sure people would have called me out soon after USC won in january, and that would have been just fine, b/c its just the board having fun bringing up your humility lesson.

Also why I didn't bet Mili about the QB thing, b/c I wasn't in the mood to risk a month off.

The month off is the part I just don't get. Why have that part of the bet? The donation is VERY commendable and the sig is a funny way to get a taste of humble pie for a while (all in good fun). But, the month off? I just don't get it. How does that help anything?

Frankly, who really cares? If Mililani welches, who cares? Call him a welcher. He would deserve it, but if I were Mililani, I wouldn't really care. No offense to all of you highly respected BP members out there, but there's a lot more important things for me to worry about than whether I'm considered a welcher on an internet message board.

But, if it really is important, I have a potential solution. Change the sig (already done), make a $50 donation, and make another donation in exchange for the month off. Everyone wins. No one welches. No feelings are hurt.

I just enjoy the use of the word "welches." :) a fine suggestion indeed yertle (the month off idea I guess was to make the bet sting... it was their idea, not ours)

Here is my take:

I don't really care either way.

Was it a stupid bet? Probably. However, I do believe I know Mili on a better level than most of this board and I also know what he does for this place behind the scenes. If the guy doesn't stop posting for a month...I really don't care. He contributes as much as anyone else here and more than 99% of this place in the pursuit of making BP a better site. I will not place my respect for the guy on some stupid bet.

When some folks start doing as much for BP as Mili, then they can come tell me to feel differently. Until then, the man has my respect and has more than earned the right to call the situation as he sees fit. Yes, admittedly, I would probably view the situation differently if TG05 or Jwins was involved instead. However, there are a number of guys on this site that can attest to special treatment...I've PMd a number of people instead of warning them when they definitely deserved one. That is not because I want this duality in decision-making, but out of respect for what they do here.

If someone has an issue with that, feel free. My PMs are always open.

Otherwise, this is silly drama to me.

The most ironic thing about this open criticism is that most of it is only occurring because those specific people don't like Mili. Thumpers is always one to try to get a rise out of people, especially Mili, and several others don't like him for whatever reason. A few don't really care, but are throwing out their own opinions.

I look at this very similiar to how 21 does. Once anybody else at this site starts putting in the time, energy, and money that Mili does, then I'll have their back like I do Mili's. Actually, I take that back, because 21, 3yards, and Clarity all do. Those four put more into this site than all the rest of us put together. If we have a couple of crybabies that want to bitch because they think that Mili "welched" on a bet - a bet these same crybabies weren't even involved in - then they can keep bitching as long as they want. At other sites, they would simply be shown the door, but thanks to Clarity, 21, 3yards, and MILI, this site is special. Frankly, I'm a little irritated that Mili is even taking two weeks off, but again, that's his call.

Wow, I can't believe I just wasted my time reading this entire thread. Since I did, I'm going to make YOU waste your time reading this reply. I don't givafuk about Mili's bet. I couldn't possibly care less if he welches (just for you JW) on a stupid bet, or if he partially welches. Would the board give tg05 the same leniency it's showing to Mili? No, and for good reason. Mili spends his personal time and money to make this a better site. tg05 is, well....tg05. As grad said, there are a few posters (himself included) who are worth more to the site than any of us.
Would I expect Clarity to make a bet and then not pay up in full? No. I don't suspect he would have made the bet in the first place, but if he did and decided to welch- and told the person he bet to fuck their hand, so be it. He's earned that right. I wouldn't respect him any less. And I would care the exact same amount as I do about this.
Oh yeah, and one more thing.

I have an idea.... if you're not actually a part of this bet... Shut the fuck up.

If the terms are acceptable to those actually involved... then... well... its not your problem.
