Mustain & Arkansas Desperation (Merged)

In case anyone missed it Mitch Mustain passed on Michigan, Texas, etc. to stay home and play with Arkansas.

What triggered this post is not Mustain per se, but that of the top 17 QBs rated by Scout (every four and five star) ALL have committed except Tebow. It is only August. I find this remarkable.

On another topic, I was hesitant to post this in the recruiting board because the organization there is focued so strongly on individual players, not gerenal recruiting topics. But this is clearly about recruiting. Do we need yet another recruiting board for discussion of general recruiting topics?

The discussion for this portion has been split and merged HERE

As for Tebow, recently, the word I am hearing is Alabama and South Carolina making major strides.

Blue chip QBs historically have commited much sooner than players at any other position. This year QBs and LBs are the quickest to pull the trigger.

SPRINGDALE -- Sources confirmed Monday that Springdale quarterback Mitch Mustain withdrew his commitment to the University of Arkansas in a meeting with Razorbacks coach Houston Nutt during the day.
</td></tr> <tr> <td colspan="3">
Mustain, Springdale coach Gus Malzahn and Mustain's mother, Beck Campbell, all declined comment Monday night.

Mustain, the Bulldogs' senior quarterback who was named the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year at a banquet on Monday, committed to Arkansas before a state television audience on Aug. 15 along with teammate and receiver Andrew Norman, who also committed to Arkansas.

The announcement came after a whirlwind of recruiting during the spring and summer for several Springdale players, five of whomcommitted to Division-I colleges during the summer. Those players included offensive lineman Bartley Webb (Notre Dame), receivers Damian Williams and Ben Cleveland (Florida) and both Norman and Mustain, who were the last to make their commitments public.

At the announcement on Aug. 15, Mustain said he chose Arkansas over Notre Dame and that the commitment was a relief after the hectic spring and summer.

In his two years as a starter for the Bulldogs, Mustain is 329 of 492 passing for 5,981 yards and 67 touchdowns. He set the state's Class AAAAA single-season record for yards passing (3,817) this season while leading the Bulldogs to the state championship on Saturday in a 54-20 win over West Memphis in War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock in front of a record crown of 25,386. </td></tr></tbody> </table>
I'd like to see what was so great about that crown

There have been rumors of this for awhile. Apparantly Texas has stayed on him big time. I wouldn't look for him to go to ND. They have two QB's committed this year already, and they would blow any shot they have at Jimmy Clausen if they took Mitch this year. It will be interesting to see where some of these top guys go. Tebow now looks to be heading to UF, as his friends are going there and their QB commit Jevan Snead renegged and verballed to Texas. The world of recruiting is sometimes very funny...

Word is he's deciding between ND and Tennessee

I would bet on Tennessee then... As hard as Big Head Chuck has been going after Jimmy Clausen, I would be surprised if he would take Mustain this year. Who knows though, if Mustain commits to ND, then one of their guys could always decommit. But with Cutcliffe now on board at UT and what looks to be immediated playing time available, I would think they would get him.

Isn't Tennessee one of the frontrunners for Jimmy Clausen as well?

Well who is to say that Mustain won't be better than Clauseen. I am sure if Notre Dame can get him they will take him.

All these Qb's are in love with Notre Dame. Don't they know that only 1 can play.

Mustain &amp; Arkansas Desperation (Merged)

Arkansas got the commit of the #1 QB recruit in the country, Mitch Mustain, in August. Mustain recently reopened his recruitment. Houston Nutt goes and hires Mustain's high school coach to be the OC at Arkansas. That's an awfully big jump to make for a coach and pretty big risk to take such an inexperienced OC just to try and get one player.

it should be humorous when the kid goes to ND or elsewhere.

Unless the HS coach is an absolute genius, that wouldn't sway my decision at all if I were Mustain. I would want someone who is experienced developing QBs to head to the pros.
