Mt Graham Telescope Operational...Finally!

It seems like it's taken forever, but the Mt Graham Binocular Telescope is finally operational. It's the most powerful observatory yet constructed with 10x the resolution of the Hubble Space Telescope.

Ohio State hold the largest single institution ownership share at 12.5%.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Ohio State University is the proud co-owner of the world's most powerful optical telescope, now operating in southeastern Arizona.

The Large Binocular Telescope, as it's called, is perched atop 10,500-foot Mount Graham -- capturing striking images of objects millions of light years away.

Its two giant mirrors gather more light and have 10 times the resolution of the Hubble Space Telescope.

Although it took its first images using both mirrors late last year, none of them was released until today.

Ohio State has a 12.5% share in the telescope.

CAS (Columbus Astronomical Society) has talked in depth about the LBT for a few years now. I'm looking forward to seein what it can do.
