I am watching Wall to Wall Sports on 10tv here
What Buckeyes (players & coaches) would you put instead of the presidents
Tim May wrote an article in the dispatch.
Opinions may very depends on the years
Mine would be

1. Eddie George
2. Artchie
3. Woody
4. Jim Tressel

I have to agree with Tim May that Chic Harley's place is non-negotiable. It may have been a long time ago, but no one has done more for the program since.

On the other end of the spectrum is Jim Tressel. His contribution is so recent that it is difficult to place it in historical perspective. Right now, Hopalong might deserve the 4th place more than JT. But how long will that be the case? We're talking about a hypothetical monument of stone; an enduring tribute to all-time greatness. You wouldn't include someone in such a monument if you expect their place in history to be supplanted by another within a decade.

My 4 are therefore:
  1. Chic Harley
  2. Wayne Woodrow Hayes
  3. Archie Griffin
  4. Jim Tressel

That's a pretty good list. Obviously we're talking football only here, so Jesse Owens and Jack Nicklaus aren't in the discussion.

But it's tough to leave Bill Willis, Jim Parker, Rex Kern, Jack Tatum, Chris Spielman, Orlando Pace, 5 Heisman winners and many others off the list.

...and Randy Gradishar, John Hicks, etc...

Sometimes its hard to have such a long and storied history.

But I think we can handle it.

I'm amazed how many of these lists are leaving off Chic Harley. I also agree with May, Harley's place is non-negotiable, he's the first guy that should be on the list. I don't think enough people realize Ohio State football wouldn't be what it is today without him and he's the main reason they decided to build Ohio Stadium.
I would have to go with:
Chic Harley
Bill Willis
Woody Hayes
Archie Griffin

I'm going to start with the standard Harley, Hayes, and Griffin. The fourth is tough. And since I want to pick someone that I actually got to see play or coach, I think I'll pick Eddie George.

Harley, Woody, and Archie should be locks.

The 4th is tough. I don't want to put a player on there, because aside from Harley who built the Shoe and Archie with his double Heisman.....is any single player worthy of such an honor? Then again, putting Tressel on there while he's still the coach might be a bit over the top.

Did any of the old time Heisman winners make as significant impacts as Harley and Archie?

Eddie shouldn't be there over Orlando Pace. Pace was the better player (frankly, not even close - Pace may be the best OL ever in college football; Eddie isn't even top 10 in RBs) and was the main reason Eddie had as good of a career as he did.

Probably not, but Vic Janowicz may be next in line.

I'll go with:

Woody Hayes
Archie Griffin
Chic Harley
Andy Geiger

Hey, Andy has had a significant impact in the overall football program, (i.e. oversaw the finances, stadium expansion, practice center expansion, hiring the head coach, providing leadership and direction, and defended Ohio State during NCAA investigations, etc).

I'll buy that--they're my 4, too.

Harley, Woody and Archie are automatics as previously stated. It really just depends on your criteria or point of view as to who gets the fourth spot. I went with Bill Willis because he was a pioneer. He was one of the first great African-American players in college football and was Ohio State's first African-American all-american selection.
