MSU PG Lucious suspended

Korie Lucious dismissed from Spartans

Michigan State announced Tuesday night that is has dismissed junior guard Korie Lucious for the rest of the season.
"Unfortunately, Korie Lucious displayed conduct detrimental to the program," Spartans coach Tom Izzo said in a statement. "My focus is on this team for the remainder of the season."
"I didn't live up to the standards of the program," Lucious said in his own statement. "Unfortunately, I let my teammates, my coaches, and myself down, and wish them the best for the rest of the season."
Neither Izzo nor Lucious elaborated on what may have led to the starter's dismissal.
Lucious was suspended for Michigan State's season opener after pleading guilty to a reckless driving charge in September but had played in every game since.

New article on an old story....

Korie Lucious kicked off team in 2011 for smoking 'a lot of weed'

bilde

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo, right, talks with Korie Lucious on the bench during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game against Eastern Michigan, Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, in East Lansing, Mich. Lucious was suspended by Izzo for the opener after pleading guilty in September to misdemeanor reckless driving. Michigan State won 96-66.

Officially, when Tom Izzo dismissed guard Korie Lucious from the team in January 2011, it was for a "violation of team rules." In a recent interview with Travis Singleton of blackathlete.net, Lucious said marijuana was the real reason Izzo booted him from the team. ... [Said Lucious:] "That's the real reason I got kicked off the team and I let my mom, family and friends down. To be honest, Michigan State was a great program I'm not taking anything from coach Izzo or the team but that wasn't the place for me to be." Lucious went on to say Izzo "just didn't respect my game." "Coach Izzo used to always call me an 'And1' player, like even if I dribbled in between my legs and he would just yell at me and say 'This isn't And1 street ball,'" Lucious told the site.

Oh, of course he smoked weed, that's what "violation of team rules" means.

I will remember (according to multiple reports) Lucious for skipping the postgame handshake line with the Buckeyes after his ISU team lost (and according to one report he threw something into the scorers table). What do you bet he didn't avoid shaking hands after he hit the game-winner against Maryland in the tourney in 2010?
