Movie: The Lady in the Water

Taosman

Your Cousin In New Mexxico
Those of you suffering in the heat might want to check this movie out!

It's a M. Night Shyamalan movie.
It's a fairytale/mystery movie and slow starting but worth your viewing.
Be patient. It gets better. :tongue2:

And. The air conditioning was delicious!

When I first began seeing previews for it 6 months ago I thought it looked terrible, then last month they began rolling the extended previews which gave me a better idea of what it was about and I started getting pretty interested in the film, however, then everyone I know and everyone on TV began saying how bad it was, so now I have no idea what to think, I guess I'll probably just wait for it to come to HBO and check it out then or something.

Yet, any and all breakdowns in this thread from those who have seen it could cause me to get off my ass and go see it.

I saw the movie last weekend, and I have to admit that was one of the worst movies I have ever saw. It was a waste of 6 dollars if you ask me. The movie wasn't scary at all, and it was so stupid I laughed through the whole movie. But a good movie I have saw which I saw tonight is Miami Vice. VERY VERY GOOD MOVIE! I recommend it. The action in the movie is so real! go see it!

M. Night Shamalamadingdong sucks, IMO. I liked the "I see dead people" movie, and I think "Unbreakable" (or whatever it was called) was his, but the stupid alien movie was pathetic, and I couldn't make myself go see "The Village" after everyone I knew said it sucked. As opposed to, say, Steven Spielberg, when I see Mr. Shamalamadingdong's name, I assume the movie is going to suck.

How scary is it?

Probably not at all, and those expecting early-Night-style horror will likely be disappointed: the tagline is "A Bedtime Story", which implies a sort of fairy tale story, but my recommendation for any Shyamalan viewing is to go into it without any expectations or preconceptions. The cast certainly looks good.

I'd be curious to hear other thoughts... there have been a surprising amount of negative reviews for the movie.

How scary is it?

I think MNS is experiencing backlash for being perceived as arrogant, pretentious, and self-absorbed by the rest of Hollywood, which given the baseline there for that sort of thing is actually impressive in a not so good kind of way. I haven't seen any of his movies, but the negative reviews seem to be as much personal attack as film criticism, and when that starts there's usually quite the feeding frenzy.

Could be right, Jag, but I don't personally know anything about, nor care about, MNS. All I know is that his movies are presented to be "horror", and often are not. They have always been very highly-touted, and have disappointed me. His reputation, with me, has been earned by his product alone, and I have no interest in being disappointed yet again.

All I know is that his movies are presented to be "horror", and often are not.

That is the work of studio marketers alone, and this marketing is completely separate from the actual works MNS is submitting for your viewing pleasure. He is not a "horror" director, and Disney/WB have disappointed a lot of movie-goers by hyping his movies as horror. Like I said before, the only way to enjoy his movies is to go into them without expectations.

(Full disclosure: I am a big fan of "Unbreakable", "The Village" and "Signs")

Go pee out your ass troll. :p **Only people who have seen Clerks II will get that, it isn't a flame**

So you're saying you didn't laugh? The only thing I didn't like was the parking lot dance sequence.

I laughed, but is was more of a "dude, where's my car" laugh than a "big lebowski" laugh. Those who have seen the two movies know what I'm talking about.

The jokes are more forced, and the classic customer commentary of the original is completely missing.
