Week 12 Update: The Race for Mr February

Hoover did not sit around and feel sorry for themselves over losing the #1 recruit in the land, they went out and snagged another

prospect to fill the void, this time a MLB. They also added a number of solid lower-tier prospects to climb into the top-5.

Bayside continued to stockpile talent, hauling in 5

Miami added a bit more star power with a couple

Hoover has to get through their trip to the swamp this evening, but if they do, we'll have an epic matchup in Week 13.

Two undefeated programs.
Two bitter rivals.
Two dreams of SEC & championship glory.
Two legendary coaches.

One victor. Who will it be?

We've never let real news get in the way of our oversaturation of one topic before, so why stop now? When you look at these two teams, they are mirror images of each other statistically.

Miami O vs Hoover D

47.4 points vs 22.5 ppg def
126 rush ypg vs 88.6 ypg def
393 pass ypg vs 256 ypg def

Hoover O vs Miami D:

43.3 points vs 23.0 ppg def
136 rush ypg vs 79 rpg def
260 pass ypg vs 258 ypg def

In situations like these, I look for difference makers. My impact player in this game also happens to be the one statistical area of this team that is not equal, Willie Beamen's arm. Much is made about his mobility and his recent injuries, but it's his arm that makes him truly special.

Against SCLSU, they effectively made Miami one dimensional, yet Willie was still able to find a way to win the game through the air, despite heavy pressure. I think that Steamin' Beamen will again be the reason Miami emerges victorious.

Well, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand fast. Let's get a quick scoring recap. After that first TD, you got the feeling things were going Miami's way, but man, the floodgates really opened up after that.

So week 13 brought Springfield a bye week. So whenever anyone asked me how my week's preparation was going, I simply responded with a cheerful "bye." I found it interesting how most of the people looked surprised or even saddened by my response. That's when Lisa, my granddaughter, pointed out that due to my age, many of the people probably thought I was terminal and preparing to die. That probably also explains why Homer's been so cheerful all week.

So with the week off, I decided to hit the recruiting trail. Of course though, I'm old and frail, so I didn't very far, and I didn't talk to many recruits. I basically went to one recruit's house and begged him to commit to Springfield. At first he declined, saying he had better offers.

I then told to him that I'd like to go all USC on him and his family, buying him new clothes, a new car, and a new house. I then explained to him that since Mr. Burns is on the board of Springfield University, that we have no money for such things. I further explained that it would be best for him to commit quickly so that I wouldn't die in his house and his folks could avoid all of the mess associated with such a "departure." I learned that line from Joe Paterno, and it proved to be effective. His parents then gave me a commitment at that very time and he agreed with them.

2 down and 23 to go.

Say, speaking of "2 down" that reminds me of my first menage a trois. I was in the navy back then and a fellow sailor came to me with an important message from the Read Admiral. Now the guy wasn't really a Rear Admiral, but we all called him that because of the way he seemed to admire rears of fellow... ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz...

We had a strong finish for our recruiting last season. After having underwhelming success in-season, we recovered nicely and added a lot of players that should provide us with good depth over the next few years.

We also found a few guys that are being pressed into action this year. Among them are Montgomery Burns and Waylon Smithers.

Wait a minute... THE Montgomery Burns? How will his old and frail body be able to hold up during games with such fierce opponents? And what's his eligibility standing?

And it's hard to imagine Waylon Smithers playing football. I mean, he is the head of the local Malibu Stacy fan club.

I'll answer those questions Abraham. Regarding my health, I've hired a team of doctors and scientists to help get my body into tip-top shape. No steroids or anything that is currently illegal according to NCAA bylaws. It seems that they never expected bionic body parts to be ready at this time. The joke's apparently on them.

For my foray into athletics,
I've got scientists and medics,
For my books and all my classes,
I've got Red Bull and reading glasses.

See my chest, see my chest,
I've got implants in my breast,
Doctors or mechanics?
To me it's just semantics.

At my age to compete,
I need to be light upon my feet,
So I'm aided by hydraulics,
to be cheered by alcoholics.

I'll put fans in the stands,
By making plays with bionic hands,
To any complaints the NCAA stages,
They had ample warning from Lee Majors.

I've got lawyers to defend me,
And I'm on the board of trustees,
Since the NCAA has no rule,
Like Dangerfield, I'm Back to School.

To the cheerleaders that are busty,
Tell 'em I'm a little rusty,
But with some oil down below,
I'll put on quite a show.

I'll see their breasts, see their breasts,
Oh I'll finally see their breasts!

And as for Smithers, well, he does whatever I tell him to do.

We're only 2 games into the season and both Burns and Smithers, both are cornerbacks, are already making plays for the Atoms.

In the first game, Burns not only had an interception from the dime package, but he also had a catch on offense.

In game 2, Smithers had a 90+ yard kick return after Clemson had regained the lead with only 28 seconds remaining in the first half. He shrugged off one defender and raced down the right sideline for the score.

The real story of the young season is that Stan Taylor has regained his role as starting quarterback. He's unlikely to win any major awards this year, and who can blame him with the wide receivers he has to throw too, but he's off to a pretty good start. He currently has more touchdown passes than interceptions and Coach Simpson hopes that trend continues.

When I asked Bart Simpson about his losing the starting QB role he said he had just two words for me... "eat my shorts."

Most felt that AC Slater was a lock for the heisman, but somehow Captain Knauer snuck away with the award in a narrow victory. Belding is still furious and put his army of nerds to work to uncover the conspiracy behind this controversial vote.

Davey O'Brien - QB Knauer, Mean Machine

2010 Power Rankings:

1. #1 Miami 14-0 (9-0) - Undefeated, dominant. The scary part is they have room to improve.
2. #3 Hoover 12-1 (7-1) - No bowl last year, now BCS bowl champs. Hoover has a bright future with Rainey, James and other big additions.
3. #4 Bayside 12-1 (9-0) - Pac-10 & BCS champs, nearly snuck into the NC game. Herschel Walker has nothing on AC Slater.
4. #7 Allenville 12-2 (7-2) - So close yet so far. Like 09, the Miami-Allenville matchup was spoiled, this time by two losses to the Sooners.
5. #9 Kilpatrick 11-2 (8-1) - These convicts have really bought into the program. Might need to call in a hit on Bayside if they are to reach the promised land.
6. NR Springfield 8-5 (5-3) - A brutal schedule derailed Mr. Burns fiendish plan this season. Some fast cash helped their abysmal recruiting class rebound in a hurry.
7. Eastern St 8-6 (6-3) - A rough season didn't keep The Program from reaching the CCG game, but they came up just short of a BCS berth. Steroid upgrades coming.
8. Permian 7-6 (5-3) - The pressure to win in Odessa has burdened arguably the most talented program in this list. A new coaching staff looks to turn things around.
9. Tm Zissou 7-6 (5-4) - Out to sea. At least the female safety provides some eye candy with her manner of dress.

NLOID 2011: The Race for Mr February

Bayside took home the top ranked class, and did so with an abundance of offensive speed. Heading into the bowl season, they secured the fastest RB, WR & 5th fastest QB, and for good measure, a second 4.3 40 RB

Miami really closed strong, snagging the new #1 recruit, a blistering blend of speed and power, HB Jason Sykes, who credits his speed to outrunning polar bears in Alaska.

Hoover's class may not look great on paper, but this class brought a serious upgrade in speed and athleticism. Their WR, DE & DB talent has as much speed as anyone in the country. 3* CB Mitchell is an absolute stud and was hurt by committing to unranked Hoover before his senior season. Look for him to make an early splash with the Bucs.

Every offseason, we like to recognize the best freshmen from the previous season. The challenge of adjusting to college life, playbooks and the speed of the game is overwhelming for most, yet these individuals found a way to shine.

Jamie Lee, TE, Hoover Bucs | 29 rec 461 yds 10 td

With Hoover's WRs struggling to get open, Coach Propst turned to his blue-chip freshman TE to make plays at wideout, and he answered in a big way, even against Miami.

Josh Jones, FS, Miami Sharks | 81 TKL 7 TFL 4 INT 1 TD 3 FF 2 FR

Anchored the secondary for Miami's title run. Outshined standout veteran SS Scott McVey, and was so impressive in fall camp that he forced McVey to switch positions to get both on the field.
