Movie Team Dynasty Report

Willie's battling a little bit of a turf toe situation. If we didn't have confidence in Godfrey, Beamen probably could have hobbled around there, but with SCLSU, LSU & Hoover the next three weeks, we wanted him to get healthy.

We asked Godfrey to go out there and manage the game, but with the way they put the pressure on your offense, we knew he'd have to make some plays for us.

I didn't lose any confidence in Godfrey on that interception. He made the right read. The throw wasn't perfect, but Eric Berry made a great play on the ball.

Same with the option runback. The pitch was a little late, but that was a special play by the corner.

But that Eric Berry, he's a game-changer, as we all saw again when he detonated our veteran fullback and jarred the ball free. He has to be giving up at least 50 lbs yet Martinez is still a bit tipsy from that hit. :lol: Rexlas reporters, he'll be ready this weekend, his job is to create explosions all game long, just on the giving end. He doesn't like to take in the face like that.

Coach, you've always built this team around defense. Tennessee really gave your D some trouble this weekend, as many teams have done this year, including Kentucky. Have you had to change your gameplan at all this season?

No Mark, I thought I'd stick with what wasn't working. :lol:

With our defense struggling, and our star offensive weapon sidelined, we really needed someone else to step up. I've sung the praises of Mr. Johnson, who humbly took one for the team last year redshirting to create separation from the now departed Washington. But we really had 3-4 backs step up in a big way this game.

Tennessee was dominating us upfront, which made life quite difficult for our young quarterback in his first meaningful play time. To counter this, we got the ball in the flats to our veterans at RB & FB, who both beat their man coverage and scampered for 70 yards each.

Without those plays, Tennessee might have run away with the game in the first half.

Rece, those plays were easily the deciding factor in the game. Against such a physical and limiting defense, we felt that the bigger risk was giving the ball back to the other team.

Tennessee's second touchdown came on a major mistake by our squad. Our coaches didn't get the right play called in, and as our boys tried to audible to cover the fake FG, they bumped the center and set up 4th & short. Kiffin changed his mind, went for it, and converted for 6 points. That was a big play, as Tennessee had not scored up until that point.

Overall though, we were very successful, stopping them on 4 of the next 5 conversion attempts including this 4th & 1 gamble right before halftime.

Giles was trailing inside, diagnosed the play, and exploded outside to make the stop behind the line. Stuffing Brown is no easier task either, as many of our tacklers learned that game.

That held our 7 pt lead heading into halftime, which was gained the drive beforehand, also on 4th down (a dive play to our fullback).

When the refs didn't call us back out to add :01 seconds to the clock? :lol:

Boy, I'm not sure, I was feeling pretty good when our converted running back caught a pass out wide and ran over their entire defense for a score...

Really though, it was probably when our freshman safety baited Coleman into a drive ending interception near the endzone.

The playcall was designed to bring Jones into the box to spy the quarterback and give us another body against the run. Jones made yet another play beyond his years, reading the quarterback's eyes, and sprinting back from the line of scrimmage to make a huge interception.

We're still trying to figure out how no one else in america offered this kid until last December - when it was too late - but we sure are glad he's on campus.

Coach, last year Miami won the SEC but had to settle for a regular BCS bowl, watching Boise State get housed in the NC game. Most felt Miami was the clear #2 team in the land, but your squad just couldn't quite get past the fallout from losing to the Muddogs at home. What was your team's mindset heading into this game, and how do you help keep your squad from getting too amped up?

A lot of coaches will sit here and tell you that we're just focused on what we need to do and that we're not worried about revenge, we just want to win. Of course, that's a load of horse poopy.

To be honest, Kirk, you try and keep to your routine, say the right things in the locker room, keep them from running their mouths in the media... but there's only one thing on everyone's mind: vengeance.

They ruined our season last year, and we were out to settle the score.

Coach, for most of the first half, your offense struggled to get anything going. Was Beamen healthy enough to be effective?
Willie was a little dinged up, but that was more of a testament to the mud dog defense. That LB corps is as good as any in the country, and they really made life difficult on #13.

Willie threw a dangerous pass downfield, and Jimmy did his best David Tyree impression to come down with the ball. That got us on the board with a field goal.

They answered immediately with a long TD drive of their own...

Again, they held us largely in check for another drive, but Willie read the run blitz and immediately made them pay. That's why he's so valuable for us.

Our only sustained drive of the game stalled near the endzone. We went for it on 4th and could not make the completion.

SCLSU drove all the way down the field and Grenouille us look like fuckin' wolverine defenders out there.

Despite a dominant performance by their D, we were lucky to only be trailing by 4.

You guys traded a few FGs, and Grenouille ran in for another score to make it 24-13 heading into the 4th. How do you stay calm when things looked so grim?
Calm?! I was chewing out everyone I could on those sidelines. I would have probably kicked a few babies if they had strolled into my path.

Fortunately, Willie was running the offense, not me, and he kept everyone relaxed out there. During the 4th quarter timeout, he went over to the Miami cheerleaders and re-enacted his music video.

He took the field and threw all over the Mud dog defense. It was pretty clear that we couldn't win this game pounding the rock, so we turned him loose. He found Sanderson on a crossing pattern to cut it to 6.

We went for 2 to cut it to a FG, but were stuffed.

This is where our defense stepped up and took over after struggling to capitalize all game. On the ensuing drive, all-everything LB Chris Jones stayed with his speed rush and forced a fumble that we recovered.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmD-UkBJXEQ]YouTube - 4th 5 40 ff[/ame]

We chewed up 3.5 minutes of clock and eventually punched it in with a beastly run from our feature back. SCLSU was desperate to make a strip and were left grasping for air.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1sI5TUhshM]YouTube - 4th 3 00 rushTD[/ame]

Again, on the opening play of the next drive, our veteran leader stepped up and forced a huge turnover on defense, this time racing back for 6 points.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGyezo3K0zE]YouTube - 4th 2 50 intTD[/ame]

Still, this game wasn't quite over. The Muddogs were only down 10, and drove upfield quickly into scoring range. With 2 min left, Jenkins snagged his 3rd int of the game to preserve the win.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvGt9yc3hNA]YouTube - 4th 2min int[/ame]

Then, just for good measure, on the last play of the game, our star freshman intercepted the screen pass :lol:
