GARLAND, Texas (AP) - A woman apologized Friday for a "bad decision" in helping her 6-year-old daughter win tickets to a Hannah Montana concert with an essay that falsely claimed the girl's father died in Iraq.

Priscilla Ceballos said she hadn't intended to mislead the contest sponsor but got caught up in helping her daughter "realize her dream of seeing Hannah Montana."

"Instead I brought so much negative attention to my family," Ceballos said, reading a statement on NBC's "Today" show. "Please accept my heartfelt apology and please do not punish my child for my mistake."

Ceballos apologized specifically to the military and military families for falsely claiming the girl's father died in a roadside bombing in Iraq.

"I just wanted to help my daughter write a compelling story," she said. "There is no more compelling story than the struggle and sacrifices of our military and their families."

Officials with Chicago-based chain Club Libby Lu surprised the girl with the tickets and a makeover Dec. 28 at a store in a suburban Dallas mall. Club Libby Lu sells clothes, accessories and games for young girls.

The essay won her the grand prize: airfare for four to Albany, N.Y., and four tickets to the sold-out Hannah Montana concert Jan. 9. The opening line in the essay was: "My daddy died this year in Iraq."

Ceballos admitted later in the day to store officials that the essay and the military information she provided about her daughter's father were untrue.

Club Libby Lu withdrew the prize the next day and awarded it to another unnamed contestant.

"I meant no disrespect," Ceballos said on the "Today" show. "I just made a bad decision which I sincerely regret."

This is freakin sick. Kid never should've gotten in either, being bred from that stupidity- you don't deserve rewards.

I mean really, what about the kids who's fathers really did die in Iraq?
 
Hannah Montana didn't have her own thread ,and I did not want to make one so I am just posting this here. Seems somehow appropriate really. And hilarious.

04/13/08 - Actually, what do I care about that Hannah Montana? That show and merchandising juggernaut has zero effect on my life. My son would rather clean his room and brush his teeth than watch 5 minutes of Hannah Montana, and my daughter is only 2, so that crap doesn't even come on her radar. I'll have my own new horrible pop culture phenomenon to battle when she turns 5 and 6 and 7, and by then Hannah Montana will be on her 3rd stint in rehab and in the discount bins at WAL*MART (but a quarter billion dollars in the bank). But like all things evil and omnipresent in this marketing driven consumer culture that targets and assaults kids' brains and sensibilities, somehow I know all about Hannah Montana by pure osmosis. Sad, ain't it? We all know about Miley Cyrus, the manufactured pop princess crafted by the Disney Channel and pimped by Billy Ray Fucking Cyrus (and a handsome paycheck for him on her show, too, playing her "dad" on TV so he can be a "good parent" and keep an eye on her as he helps turn her into a product.... for the retarded hillbilly act he used to play up, he's a crafty bastard). I used to be disgusted and bewildered how a perfect pop culture storm like this could even exists, now I just laugh and brace for the waves and wait for the next one. It's all we can do.​

Nothing like compounding one lie with another lie - obviously, she intended to "mislead" the contest sponsor. :roll2:

I guess it was either lie or tell the truth, probably something like this:

"I got wasted on Jello shots at the Nasty Kitty, went home with one of the patrons, had sex, passed out and had this kid 9 months later. I still haven't figured out who I slept with that night...
