Most "thankless" Position on the OSU football team.

I was thinking of Ohio State football today. It dawned on me that the most thankless position on the Ohio State tootball team may be the fullback position.
I know that in the OSU offense that the traditional fullback is a glorified offensive lineman but how many times in the past 10 years has the fullback actually carried the football? Yes, football has changed a bunch since the Jim Otis/Pete Johnson era, but are they really still a running back?

Off the subject but consider any of these!

Fullback Dive
Fullback Screen-although not a running play will keep the D on its toes.
Fullback Trap-Almost never run at the College level.
True Option-Read the Dive.

I thought you were going to write about that guy who always stood at the north end of the sideline waving the towel. He finally graduated, though, and no one has been able to fill his shoes since.

Consider the team managers. They do all the little things that allow the 'talent' to be able to perform on the field. Making sure that the running back who just broke the 50 yard td stays hydrated when he returns to the bench. The guy that follows around the head coach making sure his headset cord doesn't get caught and snap his neck. The guy who stands on the opposing side of the field and makes sure that the referee has a dry football to toss into the game. The person who gives the talent towels as they come back from the shower. It goes on and on.

Many schools give their managers varsity letters for their performance and service to the team. Are they members of the team? I'd say yup.

I would add our tight ends to the list. They have known for years that not many plays were going to be included into the gameday., but they continue to block as the additional lineman and have stayed with the team.

I second that. A full back knows what his role is. A tight end at least expects to get the ball every once in a while; the good ones can get 8-10 touches in a game.

I would argue tight end. Our tight ends usually play in the trenches, but we don't really talk about their blocking. AND in Coach Tressel's play scheme, we don't really utilize their receiving ability.
