The comparison between Weis and the rest is tricky because we only have two data points. But lets look at the collective expectations for these two.
While Notre Dame was massively over-rated this year on average, there were several outlets that were not sold on them and predicted a worse showing than what they actually managed. CollegeFootballNews.com predicted only 8 wins for the Domers, who ended up with 10.
Last year on the other hand, Notre Dame exceeded everyone's expectations. CFN, for examplye, predicted a 5 win season for the Irish.
To sum up: 2 years -- One year over-rated on average, but not by everyone, the other year under-rated by everyone.
For Iowa, they were over-rated by everyone this year. The concesus was that they were the 3rd best team in the Big 10, and they weren't close to that. No fewer than 6 preseason magazines picked them 2nd in the conference. CFN.com picked them to lose only one game and to tie the Buckeyes for the conference championship again.
And this is not unusual for the Hawkeyes. Numerous outlets predicted the Hawkeyes to win the conference championship in 2005. The concensus that year was that it was either them or the Buckeyes.
To sum up for Ferentz: Over-rated by everyone this year. Over-rated by everyone last year. Over-rated more often than not since 2002.
I realize that the hype for Ferentz isn't the same as it is for Charlie. But there are many people nation-wide who are beginning to talk about Charlie being over-rated. The more people that say you're over-rated, the less over-rated you are.
And very few people outside of this board are calling KF over-rated. But that may start soon.
