More good news - cousin has been accepted to tOSU!!

BuckStocksHere

Semper Fi!
First the new job, now I learn my cousin who lives in Ohio, just got accepted to OSU- ROTC!

His parents got the acceptance letter and hid it until Christmas. Wrapped it up and gave it to him! sweeeeeeet.

Wants to be a pilot in the Air Force I think. Good move. Might as well take advantage of all the top notch facilities they have.

I was in for a few years, but things didn't work out (medically disqualified). My brother went through it also and commissioned almost 4 years ago.

In the summer before sophomore and junior year, cadets must go through field training (FT) - basically officer boot camp. The first two years in the program is used as in introduction to the military and preparation for field training.

Things may have changed since I was in, but the cadets from OSU always did well at FT. We had several physical training sessions per week, whereas many schools have only one and we put alot of emphasis on drill and ceremonies, which is pretty big at FT. When I was in, just about anyone who was qualified for a pilot slot and wanted one at OSU got one - except for a few slackers.

Congrats!

I couldn't agree more with that statement!

Bullseye

And that is saying something coming from a Marine. NO, it doesn't say you are better.....just different! ;-)

seriously though, the airforce has the nicest bases I've ever been to. It was like a 5 star hotel for us whenever we deployed to an airforce base. I distinctly remember saying once, "damn, we have REFRIGERATORS in our room"! ha ha.

My brother is in the Air Force and was in Kuwait last spring. He spent four months in a four or five star hotel on the Gulf. Said it was like a huge fitness club (pools, basketball, tennis, weight room). Their bed got turned down everyday with a chocolate on the pillow and they got a fresh fruit basket every morning. He made some serious jack there too. On top of his regular tax free pay, he got his hazard duty pay and an $85/day food allowance of which he spent maybe $5/day.
