Money Magazine: best jobs in America

It looks like sales managers are under paid.
It also does not take half your life and several hundred thousand dollars of debt to get there along with several other positions.
This list seems to ignore the outsourcing movement.
As others have mentioned there is no measure of job satisfaction or longevity.

Now you know why I went from being a desk jockey to being a peddler.

Seriously.....I was doing accounting homework on Saturday nights when the South Campus Bar still was still around. I could have majored in communications or marketing and enjoyed my life. If I only knew that back then...

If you have a finance or accounting background and the ability to sell there are several software vendors out there that will allow you take make much more than the salaries listed for doctors.

I went from engineering to sales over 20 years ago and never looked back.

You have the fun factor most of us can only dream about. I hope it is still fun for you.
I think the days of going from the military to big money at commercial airlines is over.
I have a friend that just took a job flying, training mostly, with UPS and he is pulling down $200K. That is pretty good as he was let go when TWA bit the dust.

I love teaching-you can't put a price tag on 12 weeks of paid vacation every year. I would freak out if I had a job that I had to work 80 hours a week, 9-50 weeks a year at. Sure, coaching is extra time and hardly any pay, but it's not like you are stuck in a cubicle for those extra hours.

I love flying, I don't like the paperwork part of the job. I don't like being behind the desk. Only, 12 more years to retirement.

College professor is second on the list, but isn't #2 in either salary or growth percentage, so I don't understand the sequence of the list.

I was discussing this list with someone who read the article and they said job satisfaction was also a consideration on the list. I can see this as once you are tenured, you have ultimate job security; and besides teaching and committee meetings, you get to set your own hours and even work at home one day at week doing "research".
