MMA pound for pound Top 10 List (BP Official)

JohnnyCockfight

Beer is God's proof that he loves us.
The results are in for the first official BP rankings. The 46 board members who most recently posted in the various MMA threads were polled, and 10 responded - if that doesn't scream "official" then I don't know what does. The list below sets forth the top ten P4P fighters as measured by total points received. Also, the total amount of first place votes are set forth in parentheses, as well as the corresponding position in the Yahoo and mmafighting.com P4P polls (sherdog hasn't done one recently). As you will see, the gap between #1 and #2 is razor thin. It should be noted that one fighter who did not receive a single vote in our poll, Joseph Benavidez, was #10 in mmafighting.com's poll, and tied for 15th in yahoo's.

Please feel free to add comments and discuss generally.

I think the first few are no brainer's. I would of liked to of seen Brock sneek in the top 10, but he still remains more freak then fighter. I also would love to see Sliva and GSP fight. I love to see Sliva bring, and not just dance and embrass unworthy fighters.

Say 2 years ago, yes I think he would have been Top 10. But now, I think he still has things left to prove.

GSP vs. Silva

Nice list, I agree with it for the most part. But yeah, GSP vs. Silva would be the biggest fight in the history of the UFC imho, but, imho, it wouldn't even be much of a fight.

I think that GSP would dominate Anderson Silva. Not because he is a better fighter-- he's not, but because he is a phenomenal wrestler and grappler. And if Silva has a single weakness, it is just that. Chael Sonnen exposed it and GSP is far superior to Chael. Just my two cents. I'd still pay $100 to watch it though, of course.

Heh, it's funny to see Fedor not on this list. 2 years ago all people could say was how awesome he is and how much better than everyone else he was. Now, not so much

He stalled, if he would have signed with Dana and stayed hungry he would be on that list.....make no mistake when he peaked he was a bad man.

fedor will still go down as THE best MMA fighter of all time...people are quick to write him off since he lost 2 in a row but this guy could do it all...his stand up and ground game is superb...his prime was maybe around 3 years ago and if he would of signed with UFC theres no question in my mind he would of been heavy weight champ...i always wanted to see him vs Brock Lesnar when Lesnar first started and everyone thought he was unstoppable...Fedor would of had him down and in a triangle in 30 seconds....his fight vs Randleman to me is still one of the best...he just got suplexed on his neck, which he should still be paralyzed from, and instead of letting Randleman control him he quickly recovers and then has Randleman in a arm bar 45 seconds later...amazing

If we do this after the GSP/shields fight is there any chance you could post up each BP posters p4p listings? My list has held up pretty strong, but some of it obviously is gonna change with gsp v shields. I doubt Aldo loses tonight, but it's mma.

I like the sound of it... But how about we all post our Top 10 in this thread, and then PM who ever is taking care of the voting. Or with the thread, the PM thing may be pointless.

I was thinking about sending out feelers for the second p4p poll in a couple of weeks. Late May would be 3 months after the first poll, and I was thinking 4 times a year wouldn't be overly obnoxious. But some people I PM'd for the first poll seemed annoyed by the unsolicited messages, so I am glad some of you want to keep it going.

With regards to Aldo, that guy is plain nasty. He came in at #2 in my personal p4p vote, and it was more like 1b with Silva being 1a. Aldo's and Silva's ability to finish off the competition put them a notch above GSP, to me at least. And one could argue that Aldo has put away much bigger names in his respective class, and at a much younger age, than Anderson Silva. If I were to vote today, the top spot would be a tough call b/t Silva, Aldo, Bones Jones, and maybe GSP - tonight's card will tell the tale there.

Also, sears3820 had the p4p that most closely resembled mine, and he was the only one to vote Aldo in at #1. And, sears3820 and I were also two of only a few to have Jake Shields in our top 10. We'll see if Shields is worry of it.
