On the one hand, I don't see these students as brazen racists acting out of hatred or malice. OTOH, because I intuitively know how my black friends and coworkers would react, it's not something I could endorse or participate in. Mind you, I'm a "There ain't no sacred ground" type of guy when it comes to humor. But I prefer to let that cow out of the barn AFTER the black community is a bit more willing and/or able to accept deprecation from non-blacks. If that makes me a wimp, so be it. But in my experience, blacks are uncomfortable with even self-deprecation by whites about being white in the context of white/black dynamics. We're just not far enough out of the woods in this country yet.

The simple fact is that the kids acting in poor taste. There's no defense for their stupidity.

Is it being blown overboard? Sure. Is that the product of an overly sensitive, politically correct society? You betcha. But you're not going to see me defending these morons.
