MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

This WS got more interesting to me when I learned the last time these franchises met was in 1916 (Boston won over Brooklyn).

I figured they had to have crossed paths more recently, with the Dodgers winning given the "1918" thing that went on for decades.

You gotta realize though that until the mid-2000s, Boston usually went 10-20 years between pennants. Hell between Babe Ruth's title in 1918 and their next World Series appearance, it was 28 years (1918-1946). The AL East up until realignment was either the Blue Jays, Orioles, A's or Royals post 1969 and before that you had Detroit and Cleveland in there too prior to the ALCS. There were a lot of decent teams but they never seemed to be over the top consistently until 2007 or so.

I just figured two teams who have combined for 34 pennants may have crossed paths more recently than 1916, but thanks for the history lesson.

No problem.

I don't like how hyped Boston gets simply because they had great players for about 40 of the years between 1918 and 2004. You'd think they were winning titles every couple years with how the media portrays those years but they really didn't win the AL much less the World Series very often.

I'm watching this game wishing there was a football game on. I can watch 2 football teams I don't care about but baseball is tougher, even in the World Series.

maybe its bc im getting older but not me. ill watch a baseball game (especially playoff baseball) with 2 teams i dont care about but football (outside of the Bucks and whoever im rolling out there in fantasy) is boring/annoying anymore. too many stoppages, penalties, bad football.....ugly
