Caveat: I'm a Red Sox fan. I'm not sure that he's "clearly" over the wall. although, assuming that directly over the fence (as opposed to past it) is over the wall, which is my understanding of the rule, I think that he probably was. The TBS guys didn't catch it, but as either ESPN or MLBN guys pointed out (I was switching channels and forget which one I was watching), it takes a while for Mookie's body to hit the wall after initial fan contact with the glove. I think that he was over, but I don't think it's as clear cut as TBS made it out to be. Regardless, I agree that West's call was probably wrong and that there was no way to overturn it.
What I'd like to see is some discussion of the rule itself. To me, the game would be improved if the rule stated that so long as the player doesn't entirely leave the field of play, the fans can't actively interfere with his efforts to catch the ball no matter where his glove is (there would be judgment and replay as to what constitutes active interference). Ultimately, the game's better if we get to find out if Mookie would have caught that ball or not without the fans reaching in, so let's discourage fans from getting involved. On the flip side, I'd suggest a parallel change to say that if a player leaves the field of play entirely, he can't record an out by catching the ball. The first change discourages fans from screwing up potential great plays and the second protects the safety of both players and fans (I still remember Carlton Fisk diving three rows into the stands after foul balls in full catcher gear back in the day).
